Alpha Damon (Sienna) novel Chapter 278

Damon:

Sienna and I were walking around, thankful for the moment of peace that we had. At least she had managed to somehow relax. After last night, after she let out her pain, I knew that she needed this.

“You do realize that I was resting and walking around like this is selfish?” My mate teased and I laughed, shaking my head.

“We are walking around, patrolling the park as well as spending time together. We cannot just end up pushing ourselves away, we need to work together. But we need to do an unstable mindset.” I said softly.

“I know, but that doesn’t mean that this is going to be easy. You know that it gave us the moment of peace, yes. But that is about it.” She said, and I squeezed her hand. I brought her hand to my lips, gently kissing her knuckle, making her eyes soften.

But the moment of peace was short lived. I barely had time to speak when I saw Ethan sprinting toward me, his eyes wild, jaw clenched tight like he was holding something inside that might tear him apart if he let it out too fast. His heart raced against his chest. Delilah followed close behind. Both her and Sienna shared a glance but Delilah did not speak. Both turned their attention to me.

“What the hell is going on? You two look like you’ve seen a ghost.” I said, glaring at Ethan. Little that I know, this was exactly what they saw. A ghost.

“Damon…” he stopped short, chest heaving. “It’s Carter. I don’t know how to explain it, Damon.”

My body locked before the words were even fully spoken. I waited for what he was going to say, not wanting to come to assumptions, not wanting to think that my best friend was betraying us, that my beta was betraying us.

“What about him?” I asked, though my gut already churned. “What are you saying, Ethan? Speak loudly and clearly for me to understand.”

“He let her in. We saw them and this is not going to be the end of this. They are going to keep proceeding. This war is going to proceed. They’re coming, Damon, and they’re doing it fast. They’re doing it now.”

He didn’t have to say her name. I already knew who he was talking about.

Tatiana.

My blood turned cold.

“What the hell are you saying?” I said, looking him dead in the eye. “Do you realize how dangerous it is what you’re saying? This is not just some kind of game that you can play.”

“She was here. In the woods. With him. He stood beside her, Damon. And he didn’t fight it. The missed welcome, Tim, He was amongst it. He was speaking to them. He was speaking to her.”

I didn’t want to believe it. Couldn’t. But Ethan wouldn’t come here looking like that if it wasn’t real. His heart would not race if he was lying and I read the fear in his eyes.

Sienna looked at me before turning her attention to Delilah. Her sister nodded. I pinched the bridge of my nose. One thing to find the right words to say, wanting to explain how I felt, wanting to say how wrong this felt.

Before I could speak…

The ground groaned beneath our feet.

A low, guttural sound, like the earth itself was crying out.

Then it hit.

A sharp quake rolled through the estate, knocking frames off walls and splitting stone underfoot. Sienna stumbled back. Delilah tried to hold her ground. Isla cried out from somewhere inside the house. And that was when Sienna snapped, wanting to rush inside to aid our daughter.

“No,” I breathed, eyes wide. “She’s not waiting. She’s already started. They’re here. They’re coming now. Sienna, Delilah, go and check on Lysandra and Isla. Keep them safe.”

I watched as the two of them ran toward the door, heading inside despite the panicked pack members who were doing their best to flee.

Outside, panicked voices rose.

Wolves shifted. Commands were shouted. I growled at everyone, forcing the order around.

I stormed through the courtyard as I saw it forming around, as I saw what was to come, the enemy who was threatening us all.

“I don’t care what she’s brought back,” I growled. “Dead, demon, darkness, it doesn’t matter. She thinks she can walk through our borders like it’s nothing. But we are not going to stop, Not until we end this. Not until we end them. Her and everyone who follows.”

I clenched my fists, every inch of me buzzing with heat. With purpose.

“She’s about to learn what it means to provoke an Alpha. What’s the weather? She’s going to learn what it is to provoke a pack, to provoke a home and families.” I said, speaking to my pack members. “No matter what happens, we’re not going to step back. We are going to fight and this war is going to end. Together until the very end.”

Behind me, I could hear the murmurs of strength returning.

My pack was listening.

My pack was watching.

And I would not let them break.

“Stand your ground!” I shouted. “They want to shake us, good. Let them. But we do not fall. Not for her. Not for Carter. Not for any goddamn shadow that thinks it can rip through what we built.”

The wind howled louder, as if answering the challenge.

And I welcomed it.

Now, more than ever, I welcomed what was to come. And I was going to stand until the end of it…

“Let them come,” I said under my breath, my eyes never leaving the trees. “I dare them.”
