Alpha Damon (Sienna) novel Chapter 281

Damon:

“Get back inside!” I shouted, shoving a trembling warrior toward the entrance of the east wing. Blood splattered across the walls, smoke beginning to rise as the mist thickened again. The shadows weren’t just watching anymore. “Hold your grounds. We need to get undercover. They’re going to get to us. They’re within us.”

They were here.

They were here in a way that I did not expect them to be.

And they were tearing through us.

They were eating us left and right. Somehow they were controlling those that they could.

A wolf to my left lunged toward a beta female, eyes glassy, movements feral. I tackled him, slamming him into the dirt and knocking him unconscious. His heart was racing, I could feel his wolf wanting to tremble, wanting to fear, but he was completely out of control.

Tranced. Like the others.

Just like the others who are falling for whatever this was.

What the hell did she do to them?

What the hell was she doing?

“Form yourself a formation. They’re not going to attack you if you stand strong. They’re attacking fear. They’re eating off your fear.” I heard her voice. I frowned in confusion despite being in the fight as I turned to trace her voice.

That’s when I saw her.

Delilah.

Out in the open, where she shouldn’t have been. She moved between two warriors, fast and precise, grabbing one by the scruff as he lost himself to the madness and was seconds from tearing into a child.

My eyes widened and I went to rush and help, but she was already on it.

“Stop!” she snapped. Her voice carried, sharp and cutting through the haze like a blade. The wolf froze mid-lunge, blinking, disoriented, panting. She didn’t flinch. Her hand was steady, her feet grounded like she’d done this before. “Do not touch the child.”

The wolf entrance went back to his attack, remembering what he was doing, going back to being under control, no longer distracted. Delilah grabbed his hand and twisted it, making him fall in pain before she kicked him so hard that he was knocked out of breath.

“Go inside now, you’re going to be safer there.” She said, looking at the child. The child nodded and ran ran as fast as he could. Though I knew that it was not going to be fast enough, he still ran. One of the women from inside rushed towards him, carried him and locked the door once they were in.

“Delilah!” I shouted, running to her. “What the hell are you doing? Get back inside, now! That is an alpha order. It is not a request.”

She didn’t even look at me.

“You need me,” she said calmly. “You don’t have time to fight and babysit wolves who’ve lost their minds. I apologize Alpha, but you do not get to control me. I am not part of your pack. I am your partner, not part of the pack. The order does not follow on me.”

“Delilah…”

A snarl ripped from behind me, stopping me from what I was going to say.

Ethan.

He was battling two of them at once, both tranced. I saw the moment he stumbled, caught off guard by a third from the flank. One of the wolves leapt, aiming for his throat.

“Ethan!” I shouted.

But Delilah was already moving.

A blur of dark hair and steel, she intercepted the wolf mid-air, plunging her blade into its side and flipping it over her shoulder. It hit the ground hard and didn’t rise.

Ethan hit the dirt, gasping, wide-eyed.

Delilah offered him a hand, then yanked it back before he could take it.

“Father…”

His blade was drawn, his eyes burning silver as he walked into the chaos without fear.

“Late, but not dead,” he growled as he reached me. “You didn’t start the party without me, did you? I thought that you would be a little more weary about the enemies that were around.”

I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. “Took your damn time. I didn’t think that you would show up.”

“And leave my son to die at the hands of something like this? No, you are my son and I would rather I die before seeing you take your last breath.” He said give me a gentle smile before he turned towards everyone that was around. His warrior stood strong, giving my wolves strength.

“Thank you.”

“Thank me after this is done.” He glanced around. “Where’s the bitch?”

“She’s everywhere.”

Kael bared his teeth. “Good. I’ve been waiting to put something through her for weeks.”

The wind howled louder. The shadows were shifting again. Wolves, mine, dad’s, and the cursed, clashed in the blood-soaked clearing. And yet, in the midst of it, Delilah stood tall. She glared at all of them, gathering those that she could, making them snap out of their trunks, making them come back to their senses.

Burned, bloodied, and utterly unyielding.

This war wasn’t just ours anymore.

It was all of us now.

And the real fight was just beginning.
