Damon:
The air reeked of ash and blood.
I chose not to press on Sienna about her mother’s topic, but I knew that she did not like what Tatiana had said. Even referring to her as her mother is not one that she takes easily.
Whatever Tatiana was buying time for, it was already in motion. She was playing a game and it was going to be dangerous to control it for us to be able to understand anything she’s doing. I knew that it was going to be a lot more dangerous than we would want to deal with.
“We’re going to need to keep fighting. Neither one of you is going to stop.” I heard Delilah called from a distance as she spoke to the younger girls, the girls that she had been training. Lysandra is fighting alongside Carter. And Ethan had his hand wrapped around a man’s neck before he snapped it, making man fall dead.
I tightened my arm around Sienna as I dragged her back through the fog. Her claws flexed at her sides, her breathing uneven, but she didn’t stumble. She was more than just ready for this. She was angry. Hell, she was furious. I saw it in her eyes.
She kept up with me, even as the ground began to shake beneath our feet. Even as everything started to crumble, she did not back down. She was not the same woman that she was before. For that, I was thankful and grateful. She was stronger, more courageous, and if anything, I knew that she would stop at nothing until she got what she wanted.
“Go back to Isla,” I told her without looking at her. “The fight is going to be too dangerous, Sienna. I’m not going to be able to focus on it. it “
“No,” she snapped back instantly. “Don’t even try. This fight is for the two of us to take here and I want to take it alone. I’m not going to allow you to take that decision for me, Damon.”
“Fine.” I said, snapping at her. I didn’t have the time to argue. Because I knew that if it was up to her, she would forget the fight altogether and simply end up arguing with me over it. This war was one that we were not going to give up on and I knew that I signed up to it just as much as she did.
The moment we cleared the main yard, I heard it, screams. Not the sharp, guttural cries of wolves in battle. No. This was different.
