Alpha Damon (Sienna) novel Chapter 58

Damon:

I moved swiftly through the dimly lit halls, my footsteps barely making a sound. My heartbeat was steady, controlled, at least, that was what I told myself.

That is what I wanted to convince myself with. That I did not care.

I had not been watching her.

That she wasn’t my main attention.

But the feeling that I’m having towards her is one that I can easily deny.

I had simply been ensuring that Isla was well, that she was being cared for. That was all.

Yet, the moment my eyes landed on Sienna cradling our daughter, her soft voice whispering to her, I had felt something shift inside me.

When I saw her speaking to my mother, when I saw the peace that was going on around the pack, when I saw everything that I found myself missing. I knew that the clench in my heart told me something.

Something I didn’t want to name.

It was something that I wanted to refuse. Something that I did not want to admit to.

I saw the way she touched Isla’s cheek, the way she looked at her with so much love, so much care, it was something so foreign to me, yet strangely familiar.

It wasn’t just Isla.

I had caught myself watching her.

And for the first time in years, I didn’t know how to deal with it.

For the first time in years, I did not know how I could just easily be in control when I found it slipping from my fingers.

I had spent the last two months trying to ignore whatever this was, keeping my distance, keeping myself occupied. But every damn time I found myself near her, it got harder to pretend that none of it affected me.

She had always had this way of getting under my skin.

She always had this way of knowing how to speak the right words when I needed to hear them.

And it was starting to piss me off.

The fact that I could not control my own self, let alone her, was starting to piss me off.

I exhaled sharply, running a hand down my face as I stepped out into the cool night air, trying to let the fresh breeze calm my thoughts.

I needed to shut this down.

I was Alpha.

I was a Lockwood.

I did not allow emotions to cloud my judgment.

Yet the memory of her face, the way her lips parted slightly when she caught sight of me just before I disappeared into the shadows, it refused to leave me.

“Fuck,” I muttered under my breath.

“What’s got you all tense?”

I didn’t flinch at the voice behind me.

Ethan.

My Beta had a habit of appearing when I least wanted him to.

I turned to see him leaning casually against the porch railing, arms crossed over his chest, his sharp eyes scanning me with mild curiosity.

“Nothing,” I said flatly. “Just fucking nothing.”

Ethan smirked. “You sure about that? Because you look like you just walked out of a war zone. Are you sure that it does not have a name to it?”

I shot him a warning glance, but he only shrugged. Of course, he was the last person to care about what I was telling him. He was the last person to care about a glare from me.

“I know that look, Damon. The one that says you’ve been thinking too much.” He raised a brow. “Let me guess… Sienna?”

My fingers twitched.

“I don’t have time for this, Ethan.” I muttered under my breath, not wanting to talk about it.

I should have expected this.

My mind shifted gears instantly, focusing on the threat at hand.

For weeks, things had been calm.

Too calm.

Ever since Lysandra had left, things had settled. No political bullshit, no unnecessary tension. Just… stillness.

And I had let myself breathe in it.

I had let myself get distracted.

With her.

With them.

I set my jaw, forcing my emotions back into the locked cage they belonged in.

It was time to remind Giovanni who he was fucking with.

“Call a meeting,” I ordered. “I want every sector head in my office by dawn. We’re shutting this down before it spreads. If he thinks that he can have any control, then he is very wrong. And if his daughter thinks that she can have influence on him, then I’m going to have to put a stop to all of that.”

Ethan nodded, already reaching for his phone.

As he turned to leave, he paused, glancing at me over his shoulder.

“I know you’ve got other things on your mind, Damon.” His voice was quieter this time. “But don’t let this shit pull you under. Handle Giovanni. But don’t let her slip through your fingers either. I think the you know that she deserves a chance. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be thinking twice about her.”

I didn’t respond.

Because I didn’t have an answer.

And right now, I wasn’t sure I wanted one.
