Alpha’s Regret After His Pregnant Luna Left novel Chapter 61

(Audrey’s POV)

The piercing beep of hospital machines filled the silence. The sound was rhythmic, steady, but it felt deafening in the sterile room. My eyelids fluttered open, the brightness burning my vision. For a moment, the room swam, and I wondered where I was. The ache in my body pulled me back to reality.

I blinked hard, trying to clear the haze. The ceiling, stark white without a single blemish, came into focus. Then, the pain came, sharp and deep in my abdomen. It knocked the breath out of me.

“You’re awake,” came a voice, trembling and thick with emotion.

I turned my head. Sarah was sitting beside me, her face pale and drawn. Her eyes were red, hints of tears pooling in them.

“Sarah…” My throat felt raw, like I had swallowed shards of glass. “My pups… where are my pups?”

Her expression shifted completely. She froze, her lips parting as if to speak, but no words came out. Then her eyes flickered away, and she swallowed hard.

“Audrey…” she whispered, her voice breaking. “I’m so sorry.”

No.

Her words hit me like a hammer. My heart clenched, and my breathing quickened. My hand moved instinctively to my abdomen. The emptiness there sent a shock through my body.

“No…” I breathed. My voice cracked as panic swelled.

“Audrey, please, let me explain,” Sarah pleaded, leaning closer, her voice desperate and pained.

“My pups…” I whispered, struggling to make sense of the unbearable truth. “Where are they? Where are my pups?”

Sarah’s lips trembled as she tried to hold back her tears. She clasped my hand tightly, her voice shaking. “Audrey, I-I don’t know how to…”

I cut her off, my voice rising in panic. “Sarah, tell me! Are they okay? Are they alive?!”

Her throat worked, struggling with the weight of her answer. Finally, she shook her head, her own tears spilling. “… I’m sorry, Audrey. They couldn’t-“

I let out a sound, half a gasp, half a cry.

“No, no, no,” I muttered, clutching at the blankets. “This can’t be real. It can’t be real.”

Tears blurred my vision as I clutched at my stomach, hoping for something-anything to tell me this wasn’t true.

“They were crying in my dreams,” I whispered brokenly, the words tumbling out. “They said I didn’t protect them enough. They said I failed them.”

Sarah moved closer, her face anguished.

“No,” she said firmly, gripping my shoulders. “Audrey, this isn’t your fault! You did everything-absolutely everything-to protect them.”

Her words didn’t register. My own cries drowned everything out. My chest heaved, my heart breaking into pieces I couldn’t put back together.

The heavy silence in the room was shattered by voices in the hallway.

“I said no, Victoria,” Arthur’s voice carried through the door, his tone soft but firm. “The doctor said you need to watch your diet.”

“But I want cake,” Victoria whined in reply, dragging out the words like a spoiled child.

“You can’t always give in to cravings,” Arthur replied, his tone shifting to something almost scolding.

“It’s not fair,” she said petulantly. “Can’t you just carry me back to my room? I feel so tired.”

Hearing their exchange made my breath hitch.

Arthur’s voice was tender, filled with concern and care, the kind I had once longed for him to direct at me. Now, here he was, lavishing her with it. The sharpness in my chest grew unbearable. Each word felt like a slap, reminding me of just how far I had fallen from his grace.

Sarah’s jaw tightened, her hand on mine turning to a near vice-like grip.

“Is he serious right now?” she hissed through clenched teeth. Her rising anger radiated off her like waves. “She’s whining about cake while-while this-” she motioned at me, her frustration erupting into words. “I can’t let this slide, Audrey. I’m going out there.”

“No,” I said quickly, grabbing her arm with all the strength I could muster. My voice was hoarse but firm.

“Don’t,” I continued, my tone cold. “It’s not worth it.”

Sarah’s face twisted with barely contained fury.

“You don’t deserve to hear that garbage right now,” she said, her voice dropping as if afraid it might escape into the hallway.

“I don’t care,” I lied, my voice numb. “We’re leaving. I won’t stay here another minute.”

“Audrey, you just had a procedure-” Sarah tried to reason with me, but I was already pulling the IV from my hand.

“Help me up,” I demanded, biting back the pain that shot through me.

Sarah hesitated again, but the determination on my face left no room for argument.

“Fine,” she snapped, packing my things quickly while grumbling under her breath about Arthur and Victoria. “But don’t you dare push yourself too hard. You’re already pushing me to my limit.”

“Yes,” I spat back without thinking, the word burning on my tongue as it left. “She deserves it!”

Arthur’s eyes darkened with fury.

Before I could register the movement, his hand struck me across the face.

The sting burned, but it was the wound in my heart that throbbed the worst.

“You’re heartless,” he hissed, his voice vibrating with rage.

Tears stung my eyes, but I refused to cry. My body shook, though not from fear.

Without hesitation, I struck him back, the force of my palm meeting his cheek leaving both of us stunned for a moment. His face turned slightly from the impact, but he didn’t back away.

“Arthur Moonstone,” I said, my voice low and dangerous. “We’re done.”

He stared at me, his breathing uneven.

“We’ll meet at the Pack Council Office on the fifth of next month,” I continued, my voice firm despite the trembling in my body. “We’ll sever the mate bond. I’ll resign from the therapy center and submit all my research.”

I leaned closer, my glare unyielding. “It’s. Over.”

His expression was a mix of shock and fury. Before he could respond, I turned and leaned into Sarah for support.

“Audrey!” Arthur called after me, his voice carrying both frustration and something else-jealousy.

I paused but didn’t turn around.

“You’re so eager to leave me,” he sneered. “Do you think Nathan Snowfang is a good choice? Don’t be naive!”

His words were nothing more than the venom of a wounded Alpha.

I didn’t reply.

I didn’t need to.

Because for the first time, I knew I didn’t owe him anything-not my words, not my tears-not anymore.
