“It’s been three days,” Valen muttered, pacing around the room, while Derek sat across from him. The rivalry between them, momentarily forgotten, as they fight to see Ella survive.
He stares at Ella who’s lying still on the bed, aside from her shallow breath, there’s no other consciousness.
“She isn’t dead now is a miracle. Wolfsbane is very dangerous to our kind” Derek replied, his eyes fixed on Ella’s pale face.
He turned his head immediately looking at Valen as if he suddenly remembered something.
“Have you found the culprit?”
“Not yet” Valen responded, running his hands through his hair in frustration. “Lucian said the culprit has an inside Intel for her to request to use the very private suite reserved mainly for secret and undisclosable meetings, hence the absence of CCTV
cameras.
“Her?” Derek questioned, narrowing his eyes.
Valen blinked. “I don’t understand”
“You said ‘her’. The person who met with Ella.” Derek said raising his brow
“Oh… right.” Valen exhaled. “Lucian questioned one of his staff who escorted Ella to the room, unfortunately he doesn’t know her identity but he confessed to being given a substance to put in Ella’s drink. He said he didn’t take it serious because the lady said Ella was her sister”
Derek’s expression darkened “Wait a minute. Did you say her sister?”
“Yes, according to him, but I think the lady deceived him, Ella doesn’t have any sister here and besides why would someone want to kill her?” Valen asked, his hands clenched into fist.
Derek didn’t respond for a moment, lost in thought.
“Ella does have a sister. Sandra” Derek muttered in a low voice
“Sandra?” Valen stiffened, the name ringing a bell in his memory.
“You mean the one who stole her first mate?” Valen asked
Derek turned sharply toward Valen as he stared at him suspiciously. “How do you know about Sandra? Did Ella give out that much information?”
Valen straightened, his expression stoic. He couldn’t tell Derek he knew some things about Ella’s past by merely touching her hands.
“It doesn’t matter right now, let’s focus on finding the culprit. If Sandra is really the one responsible, then she has to be caught” Valen said
“I don’t think Sandra is working alone, she’s not this smart” Derek said, his expression hardening. “I think someone is helping her or she’s working for someone. There’s a link between the last incident and this.”
Before Valen could respond, a knock at the door interrupted them.
“My Lord,” Dorian called out. Lord Sebastian is demanding your audience.”
Valen sighed, he’s not in the mood for Sebastian’s stunts and taunts. Before he could dismiss him, Dorian’s voice came again. “He said it’s very important My Lord”
Derek, still watching over Ella, spoke without looking up. “You should go.”
Valen hesitated, taking a look at Ella’s unconscious state. Then he glanced at Derek who nodded at him. With reluctance, Valen turned and left.
Derek brushed off a strand of hair from Ella’s face, as he stared at her, her lips were pale and so was her face, her hands were still cold, he clasped on them, his tone pleading. “Ella please wake up”
Meanwhile Valen approached Sebastian. “What is it Sebastian? This better be important”
Sebastian noticed Valen’s tensed demeanor and knew all wasn’t well.
“I came to check up on my dear brother” he smirked.
Valen scoffed, eyeing Sebastian suspiciously “You came to check up on me? How weird”
Valen paused. A lot of people must have heard about the incident, but he doesn’t understand the feelings he has concerning Sebastian and his real intentions for visiting. It definitely can’t be just because of Morgana, Sebastian isn’t one to involve himself with matters that won’t benefit him.
He hesitated and then replied, “she’s doing well”
Sebastian nodded, observing him carefully. He could see the change of emotions in Valen when he asked about Ella, it’s obvious she wasn’t out of danger yet, but at least she’s still alive.
“Good to hear, dear brother,” Sebastian said standing up. “I will be taking my leave now, hopefully, I will be coming more often to check up on you” he extended his hand to Valen for a handshake.
Valen furrowed his brows not understanding why Sebastian is suddenly showing concern. Still, he extended his hands to shake Sebastian and immediately his vision opened again.
A flood of images crashed into his mind.
He saw everything that Sebastian did in the past. His involvement in leaking confidential information about the southern clan to the Vampire hunter, to stealing of Ella’s Vial of blood and injecting himself, to his plans to frame up Ella. All his dark thoughts and plans concerning Ella and taking him down were revealed.
Valen yanked his hands away, his eyes widened in shock as he stared at Sebastian.
Sebastian was confused as to the change in Valen’s expression, he stared at his hands wondering if there was anything wrong. “Are you okay brother?” Sebastian asked suspiciously.
Valen forced a nod. “I have something important to take care of.”
Sebastian took one more look at him before nodding and heading out.
Immediately Sebastian left, Valen rushed over to the room he had placed Ella’s Vial of blood, hoping everything he just saw wasn’t real.
His steps faltered and he staggered backward as he stood in the room, his hands clenched into fists. His jaw tightened.
The Vial of blood was gone.
