Alpha’s Regret: My Rejected Mate Is A Healer novel Chapter 61

Derek walked into the pack’s infirmary, the faint scent of disinfectants lingering in the air. The quiet hum of activity greeted him-nurses moving about and doctors tending to the wounded. His gaze swept across the room until it landed on Alpha Moore.

Moore sat propped up on a bed, his large frame noticeably stronger than the last time Derek saw him. The deep lines of exhaustion were beginning to fade, though his face still carried the effects of the plague. His wolf had fought hard, coupled with Ella’s calming effect, but the lingering poison slowed his recovery.

“You’re looking better,” Derek said, stepping closer.

Moore looked up, his lips curving into a faint smile. “Better, but not quite my usual self,” he replied, his voice deep but calm.” Thanks to my wolf, though, I’m still here.”

Derek nodded, crossing his arms. “The Doctors say you’re stable enough to leave, but I’m taking you to my home. You’ll need to rest somewhere safe while you regain your strength.”

Moore raised a brow but didn’t argue. “I won’t say no to comfort.”

Minutes later, Derek helped Moore into the car. The Alpha’s steps were steady, though a little slower than usual. As they drove through the Moonstone pack’s quiet roads, the tension in the air was palpable. Neither man spoke, each lost in his thoughts.

When they arrived at Derek’s home, Moore stepped out of the car, taking in the sprawling estate. The house loomed with a commanding presence, a reflection of Derek’s leadership.

“Quite the place you have here,” Moore said, his tone laced with admiration.

Moore stood and took a deep breath. The cool evening air carried a subtle sweetness, something faint but familiar. He brushed it off, chalking it up to his exhaustion.

“Come on inside,” Derek replied, ignoring the comment. He pushed the door open, leading Moore into the spacious living

room.

Moore hesitated for a moment, taking in the modern decor. His gaze wandered to the high ceilings and the elegant furniture, but something else captured his attention.

Moore’s steps faltered as he crossed the threshold. The scent hit him again, but this time it was stronger-an intoxicating blend of wildflowers and honey, sweet, rich and inviting. His wolf stirred to life, growling with recognition.

Derek noticed the sudden change in Moore’s demeanor. The Alpha stiffened, his nostrils flaring as he breathed in deeply. “Moore?” Derek asked, his voice cautious.

But Moore wasn’t listening. Without a word, he turned and began walking toward the staircase, drawn by the scent. “What’s going on?” Derek asked, following him.

Moore didn’t respond. His strides grew faster, his focus unwavering as he ascended the stairs.

Upstairs

Clara stood by the window in her room, staring out at the woods. Her mind was a whirlwind of emotions. The argument with Derek earlier still lingered, and the weight of her unresolved feelings hung heavy on her heart.

Then it hit her. That scent.

A scent-warm and earthy, with a hint of cedarwood-had crept into her senses, wrapping around her like a comforting embrace.

Her wolf stirred, growling softly.

“Mate.”

Clara’s breath hitched. Mate? She froze, her heart pounding as the realization settled in. Her wolf, dormant for years, now howled with excitement. A rare occurrence. The sweet, musky aroma filled her senses, and her heart began to race.

“Mate, Mate, Mate” her wolf whispered, the word reverberating through her mind like a bell.

Clara’s eyes widened in shock. Her wolf had never recognized anyone before, not even Derek, and now this…

Unable to resist the pull, Clara left her room, her feet moving of their own accord. The scent guided her like an invisible thread, leading her to the staircase.

Moore stopped halfway up the stairs, his heart pounding as the scent grew stronger. Then he saw her. Clara.

She stood frozen at the top of the staircase, her eyes locking with his. Time seemed to stand still as their gazes met. Clara stood at the top of the stairs, bathed in the soft glow of the overhead light. Her long, auburn hair cascaded over her shoulders in soft waves, framing a face that was delicate yet striking. Her almond-shaped eyes, a deep shade of emerald- green, glimmered with a mix of shock and curiosity. Her skin was flawless, a warm golden tone that seemed to glow under the light. She was breathtaking, a vision of beauty that made his wolf howl in approval.

“Mate,” Moore whispered, his voice low and filled with awe.

Clara deserved happiness. She deserved someone who would cherish her the way Moore clearly would. And Ella…

His thoughts returned to her. He had failed her once, but he wouldn’t fail her again.

“I’ll make things right,” Derek murmured to himself, his voice resolute. “Even if it takes the rest of my life.”

He strode toward the pack house, his mind made up. Whatever it took, he would find Ella. He would bring her back, protect her, and earn her forgiveness.

Derek’s footsteps echoed as he disappeared into the night, leaving Clara and Moore to their newfound happiness. But even as they bonded, an unshakable tension lingered in the air.

Fate had tied all their lives together in a web of love, loss, and redemption. And while Clara and Moore had found their light, Derek’s path remained shrouded in darkness.

For now, the storm brewing in his heart would have to wait. There were battles to fight, truths to uncover, and a mate to save. But Derek knew one thing for certain-this was only the beginning.

Back Inside

Clara and Moore remained at the staircase, lost in each other’s presence.

“How is this even possible?” Clara asked, her voice soft.

“I don’t know,” Moore admitted, his hand still resting on her cheek. “But I’m not questioning it. After everything… I’ve finally found you.”

Clara felt a tear slip down her cheek, but for the first time in years, it wasn’t out of sadness. “I had lost hope. I never thought this would happen,” she confessed.

Moore smiled, his own emotions shining through his usually stoic exterior. “Neither did I. But fate had other plans.” They stayed like that for a moment longer, the world around them fading away.
