Lila’s paws pressed against the soft earth as she approached the manor, the glow of her silver fur shimmering in the moonlight. Her wolf form moved with quiet elegance, but her sharp eyes caught the figures standing at the entrance.
Derek and Valen.
They were standing side by side, their intense gazes fixed on her as though they’d been waiting all night.
She let out a low chuckle, amused by the sight of her two mates standing together-awkward yet commanding. Well, isn’t this a welcoming committee.
“This is funny,” she muttered inwardly.
Lila, responded, her tone playful. “Funny, indeed. Two grown men waiting like lost pups. Should I shift?”
Ella scoffed. “And stand naked in front of them? Not happening.”
Lila’s laughter echoed, teasing and full of mischief. “They’ve both seen your nakedness before, haven’t they?”
“That was different, and you know it,” Ella hissed. “Don’t even try it, Lila.”
“Fine, fine.” Lila paused for a moment before adding slyly, “You wanted a conversation, though. Here they are. But let’s not forget-you can’t exactly talk in your wolf form.”
Ella rolled her eyes but didn’t respond. She wasn’t about to give Lila the satisfaction. Instead, her gaze shifted back to the two men standing before her.
Both Derek and Valen were frozen in place, their eyes locked on her wolf form. It was clear this was the first time they were seeing her like this, and their expressions betrayed their awe.
Derek’s wolf, Leo, stirred restlessly inside him. “Look at her! She’s magnificent. That silver fur, those eyes… Let me out! I want to meet her wolf to wolf!”
Derek ignored him, though his own admiration mirrored Leo’s excitement. Her fur shimmered like the moon itself had blessed her, and those intelligent eyes held a quiet strength that tugged at his heart. She looked so much like the feminine version of Kael.
Valen, on the other hand, felt his throat go dry. He fought the urge to step forward, his hand twitching at his side. She was mesmerizing, and something about her presence in this form only amplified the pull between them. His body betrayed him, heating up as memories of their last encounter surged to the surface-the moment he’d nearly claimed her.
“You idiot,” Leo growled within Derek. “She’s clearly not shifting because that vampire is standing beside you. Go get her some clothes.”
Derek blinked, snapping out of his thoughts. Without another word, he moved to act but paused, remembering this wasn’t his territory. He turned to Valen.
“She needs clothes” he said, his voice cold and stiff.
Valen’s gaze flicked away from Ella, his jaw tightening. He gave a curt nod. “Come with me.”
Derek frowned. “Why do I need to come with you? Just grab the clothes and bring them to her.”
“Just come,” Valen snapped, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Lila snickered as the two men disappeared inside the manor. “See? I told you. Valen doesn’t want Derek alone with us. Can’t blame him, really. Look how he stares at you-like he’s ready to fight for your attention.”
Ella shook her head, her voice dry. “You’re overthinking things. Maybe he just needed Derek’s help with something.”
The cold night air blew through the manor’s open doorway, making her shiver slightly. Almost immediately, both men spoke at once.
“Please come inside so you don’t catch a cold,” they said in unison, stepping aside to make way for her.
Ella arched a brow, amused by their synchronization. It reminded her of high school boys trying to impress the same girl. “Looks like being mad at them brought them to their senses,” Lila said with a laugh.
Ella ignored her wolf’s comment and walked past the men with regal elegance, her head held high, like a queen entering her court. Valen and Derek trailed behind her, each keeping a careful distance from the other.
Once inside, Ella turned to face them, her arms crossed. Her sharp eyes studied them, taking in every detail-the subtle stiffness in their postures, the way their gazes darted toward each other like two predators sizing up their competition.
“I guess there are still some things left unsaid between us,” she said firmly, her gaze locked on them, her voice carrying a weight that made both men tense.
Valen’s heart thudded painfully in his chest. He had been dreading this moment, but he knew there was no escaping it now. The look in Ella’s eyes told him she wasn’t going to let this conversation end without answers.
Derek, on the other hand, felt a glimmer of hope. She was finally ready to hear him out. He’d waited for this moment, desperate to clear the air, to clear the misunderstandings that had driven a wedge between them and rebuild their bond.
But as the three of them stood there, the air thick with unspoken words and unresolved emotions, it became clear that this conversation would change everything.
Would it bring them closer together, or drive them further apart?
