"Is there a reason you spared their god, supreme ruler?"
Atticus turned towards Oberon as he asked. The others fixed their eyes on him. From the inquisitive stares, it was obvious they all wondered the same.
It was very unlike Atticus to spare an enemy, especially one who tried to kill him.
"He’s useful." Was all Atticus said. Though they were his closest aides, Atticus still wanted to keep the revival a secret.
The only people present who knew were Whisker and Ozeroth. Not even Magnus knew that he planned on reviving his wife.
Though it pained him, he had chosen to keep the fact from Magnus too. The last thing he wanted was the man getting desperate and doing something that would get him killed.
No one asked anything after that. It was clear Atticus didn’t want to give details, and none amongst the Eldorians dared to press. Ozeroth and Whisker already had an inkling of why he spared the god, so they kept silent.
"Y-your eminence."
It was at that moment the hesitant voice of Kancilot came from the ground. Atticus turned his gaze down and set eyes on Kancilot and his remaining circle members.
The king had an intense flush on his face, and his eyes were filled with shame. Behind him, the circle members all wore the same expressions, shock and disbelief.
Each of them, especially Lancaster, had been shocked at what their king had just told them. Never in their lives would they have anticipated that their king would bend the knee to another.
Lancaster glanced at his friend. He could see how Kancilot’s shoulders slumped down as though burdened by so much weight.
’It must have taken everything he had. He did it for us,’ he realized. He suddenly felt a wave of guilt hit him as he saw their king bow and sink to one knee in respect of the child hovering in the air.
Feeling heavy eyes on them, the circle members snapped out of their thoughts and also joined their king.
"Your eminence," they echoed in unison, a little too awkward. Atticus only nodded.
’I need a way to bind them,’ he suddenly realized a problem. Their energy system in this world was tied to mana, and each one of the inhabitants had mana cores.
But without mana cores, there was nothing for mana contracts to bind. A brief scan was all he needed to see that Kariot operated on a different power system, not mana.
"I’ll teach you something interesting later." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
He glanced towards Whisker and caught his wink. It seemed as though the man understood the situation.
As Atticus nodded, Whisker suddenly yawned, earning baffled stares from the others.
"Well, that’s that," he said, indulging in a long stretch. "This ascension’s been fun! Wake me when we reach the Verge."
He vanished before anyone could say anything.
"That lazy fool!"
Ozeorth shouted. He seemed upset that Whisker had dared leave without him.
"See you later, Bond. Others." He too waved before vanishing.
Atticus then excused the others and addressed the kneeling warriors.
"You’ll move with me until I find how to assure your loyalty." His words were blunt. He didn’t try to hide the fact that he planned on binding them.
