Aww Seven Exes Begged Cute Blocked novel Chapter 106

**A Promise Written on the Rusted Edge of Time by Dael Rowan**
**Chapter 106**

As dawn broke, casting soft light across the sterile room, Jaxson stirred from his slumber. The first thing that caught his eye was me, perched quietly by his hospital bed, a silent guardian amidst the beeping machines and the scent of antiseptic.

The moment our gazes locked, I noticed a flicker of emotion in his eyes—an unmistakable glimmer of red that hinted at unshed tears. His voice emerged, rough and strained, as if it had to claw its way through the fog of sleep. “Summer…”

A wave of relief washed over me, mingled with a tinge of sorrow. “I thought I’d never see you again,” I replied, my heart heavy with the weight of unspoken words.

I placed a stack of plane tickets on the small table beside him, the crisp edges contrasting sharply with the dullness of the room. “But you’ve already seen me plenty of times, haven’t you?” I added, trying to inject a hint of lightness into the air.

Jaxson’s gaze fell to the floor, his expression that of a child caught in the act of mischief. “So you know,” he muttered, a hint of defeat lacing his words.

“I never meant to intrude on your life. I just wanted to—” I began, but he cut me off, his voice trembling with urgency.

“Jaxson, none of that matters anymore,” I interjected softly, not wanting to dwell on the past.

“What matters is—we’re over,” he stated, the finality of his words echoing in the sterile room.

His eyes glistened with unshed tears once more, and his complexion appeared ghostly, as if all the color had been siphoned from him.

“I know,” I replied, my heart aching for him even as I felt the sting of betrayal.

“The day you quit, I knew. We were done. For good,” he said, his voice a whisper that seemed to hang in the air like a ghost.

He turned his gaze back to me, and for a moment, the world outside faded. “Summer, I’m sorry. About the promotion,” he said, his tone laced with regret.

“I understand what it’s like to pour your heart and soul into something only to have it ripped away,” I replied, my hand pausing mid-peel of the apple I had been working on.

How peculiar it was, I thought, to hear Jaxson Cole—the man who had always been at the helm, orchestrating every move—actually utter the word *sorry* to me.

If the twenty-three-year-old version of myself had heard that word from him, she would have scoffed in disbelief.

“I don’t know if you’ll believe me, but before I handed Elara your promotion, I had already initiated a transfer for you. I recognized that your true talent wasn’t in Strategy; you were capable of so much more…” he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper.
