**A Promise Written on the Rusted Edge of Time**
**by Dael Rowan Sire**
**Chapter 107**
As winter once again embraced the city, I found myself reflecting on the passage of time.
With a heavy heart, I entrusted the boutique to my friend’s capable hands and returned to New York, bringing Nana along for the journey.
That particular winter, New York was transformed into a winter wonderland, the snow falling in thick, fluffy flakes that danced gracefully down from the sky, blanketing the streets like soft, white feathers.
I stood on the bustling sidewalk, feeling the cold air bite at my cheeks, but it only fueled my determination. Each step I took was purposeful, leading me toward my new company with a sense of resolve.
Jaxson had been right about one thing that echoed in my mind.
The notion of remaining in Maplewood indefinitely, living the tranquil, predictable life Nana had often romanticized, was no longer appealing.
My heart thrummed with passion for my career. I was prepared to battle for it, to pour every ounce of my energy into its success.
The company I had joined wasn’t as colossal as the renowned Cole Media Group, but it shimmered with potential, like a diamond waiting to be polished.
While the salary wasn’t exactly what I had hoped for, they offered me genuine authority—a real opportunity to lead and make an impact.
At the age of twenty-nine, I felt invigorated, re-entering the competitive arena where I truly belonged.
And I was just as daring, just as ravenous for success as I had been in my youth.
However, during my initial days, I encountered two significant challenges at work that threatened to shake my confidence.
In both instances, I swallowed my pride and reached out to Jaxson, seeking his guidance.
Each time, he responded with generosity, providing me with advice without a moment’s hesitation.
Once I had genuinely released the burdens of the past, I found no shame in viewing him as a resource—an invaluable tool to help me grow and advance more swiftly.
Fast forward five years, and my company celebrated a monumental milestone by going public.
As one of the original employees, I was rewarded with a substantial share of stock, a testament to my hard work and dedication.
One fateful day, a major beverage brand announced a public bid for an ad campaign, and I eagerly gathered my team to prepare for the challenge ahead.
To my surprise, the Director from Cole Media Group arrived with his own team, ready to compete.
Their pitch was nothing short of impressive—polished, seasoned, and razor-sharp. The presentation deck was sleek, brimming with clever touches that showcased their expertise.
The presenter was charismatic, effortlessly engaging the room, and it was clear that the client was captivated by their proposal.
Their central concept revolved around a charming animated short: a girl with a crush on a boy, whose best friend hands her the brand’s new drink, claiming, “This drink has magic. Whoever drinks it will make the other person fall hopelessly in love with them.”
