Balance of Light and Shadow (By Chandrea) novel Chapter 236

Aalto POV

When we did our strategy planning, we figured they would try to attack us on two fronts, and the north/north west side had more dense scrub to hide in. About 200 had come this way. It was obvious they were trying to use the other battle as a distraction to get to the pack house.

They clearly weren’t expecting a Siren army, though. The Faes built natural barriers that pushed them to the edge of the clear lake. They thought they were in luck at the easier route, and walked straight into an ambush.

The Siren’s launches their spears from the water and hits every target. Thirty wolves down instantly. We launch ourselves out of the water as the shadows, leaving their hosts, came straight for us. They chased us through the water, giving the Faes, Wolves and humans their opening to attack.

Vines shot out from the forest and formed nooses around the enemies’ necks, snapping instantly. Many more dropped from the silver bullets’ firing. Only when they started getting closer did the wolves come out with their claws.

It was glorious seeing their confusion at the organised chaos. Sirens came back to shore to join the fight and set streams of water in their airways to drown them on land.

Some coughed and tried to fight it, but none prevailed.

AALTO

I turned and saw Connor running straight for us. He fired at a few, getting clean hits at his targets, but he looked pissed. He surveilled the battle in front of him, and we were clearly winning, so he turned to me, confused.

“Why aren’t you responding to the comms calls? We thought you were in trouble”.

I moved my hand to my ear to check it was still in and felt the wetness of my hair. Then I realised what happened.

“You’re telling me you gave a magical ocean being a device that wasn’t waterproof”.

Connor took out another enemy and then relayed the information back to Conrad and Lewana. Then a smile breaks over his face.

“Lewana called you an assfish for not thinking about that”.

The cheek of that woman. Typical of her, though. Will have to come up with a retort to tell her in person.

We have taken no casualties, and there are only about 50 left, so this battle will be over soon. I know the battle started about two hours ago, so l ask Connor to check on the others and see if they need backup.

He replies quickly. “No. They said once we are done here, head to the compound, but leave the Faes to watch the boarders, as they can escape if needed. We apparently planned so well that none of our side has died, but wehave a lot of casualties. We need to protect them next, as they are the most vulnerable. Lewana and Conrad are going after Malik while the army takes care of the other remaining.

Malik POV

Ten years. Ten fucking years I have been planning, scheming, plotting. I sold my soul for unmatched power, killed hundreds, and enslaved thousands to this moment.

“You want to know what I have to do to take his moon essence. Quite simple, really. Eat his heart. I can use this cut down his side to pull it out intact and let my wolf eat it. Interesting phrase, holding someone in your heart. I wonder if when I eat it, will the pull to me be any different?”

Other warriors are now gathering around and watching the show, not sure what to do. The shadows feed on their panic and confusion.

I run my hand seductively up Conrad’s side through the blood and maintain eye contact with the startled little bunny as I bring the blood to my tongue and savour the iron taste.I can see the revulsion on everyone’s faces as Conrad pathetically struggles against the shadow’s magic holding him down.

“Let him kill me, Moonlight. Just stay alive and raise our pups as the Luna Queen you were always meant to be”

I can’t stop the laugh that echoes in my chest.

“You pathetic wolf. If I had known you would give up that easily, I would have planned to keep you alive to watch me have my fun with your daughter and mate. Too bad we have other plans for you”.

I’m stopped in my tracks when I hear laughing. I turn and took at that defiant bunny cackling away.

That Bitch. She thinks she can mock me. She thinks she can change this destiny. The fate that has been decided for her. I turn and send the shadows surging towards her to drown her in darkness. To pull her down so she is beneath me to claim.
