Conrad POV
I’m still blinded by the shadows, but I would recognize her laugh anywhere. Why is she laughing? When I sense the surge of Alpha Aura next to me, I know why. She’s distracting him from me.
I try to call out, but the shadows cover my mouth, so I can only listen to her battle him. Only listen to her struggle alone.
She starts openly mocking him. “You think you’re the power in this. The shadows have the power, and you know it. You’re nothing but dull wrapping paper for me to tear through to get to them”.
I’m stuck in these stupid binds, and no matter how much energy, how much I struggle, I can’t break free. I can’t get to her. I can’t call out.
The shadows must have sensed me struggling hard, so they removed the covering of my eyes so I could watch her battle Malik.
She has a blade in each hand and is battling him hard.
Blocking each blow while trying to make strikes of her own. The shadows are working against her, grabbing her hand to leave an opening for Malik to strike her face.
Blinding her to stop her next strike. However, she can use her other senses and still manages to harm him.I try to mind link the pack, but that is blocked. That’s when I notice the ground. Covered in shadows, holding their feet in place so they have to helplessly watch on.
The battle continues, and I watch as her face is bruised repeatedly, but she keeps fighting. I know he is only avoiding her belly as he wants to claim what’s inside, but he is clearly trying to knock her out.
After what is probably minutes but feels like a lifetime, she blocks a blow by dropping to one knee and holding both her hands above her head in a cross while he bears down with force.
He starts mocking her weakness. “What’s wrong, little bunny? Struggling”.
She seems to groan under his weight, and the shadows move to bear down on her as well. If he makes this blow, she will be unconscious, and I will have to watch as he walks away with her in his arms.
The shadows start tormenting me more by whispering around me.
“Failure”.
“Weak”.
“Useless”
I try to shake my head to get them out, but I can’t look away from her. I know they are using me to get to her, to distract her, so I can’t believe them.
She suddenly twists her arm to pull him further to the ground and pulls him closer to her. Her wrist flicks and out comes a small silver blade, concealed in her wrist guards. She plunges her blade into his chest until her hand is flush over his heart, driving the blade deep.
I can see the confusion on Malik’s face as he realises what happened. His staggering posture as his arms weaken. As blood starts to drool out of his mouth, Lewana pulls him closer and talks while staring deep into his eyes.
“I told you. Nothing but wrapping paper”
They start covering her body and slowly going up her neck, and I’m powerless to stop them.
Everyone who was watching has now come over to us, and I plead to them.
“What is going on? We have to stop them. We have to get them out”.We all freeze when her breathing changes. It sounds like she is suffocating.
Rose steps forward. “I’m sorry, but there is nothing we can do. The shadows are inside her, and only the Moon Goddess can get them out, and she’s not going to be in the sky for another thirty hours”.
Hook around at the Phoenixes and the Sirens. “We have to do something. Anything. The Sun will be rising soon. Take her to water. Anything”.
Eli talks next. “I don’t think that would work. She is made of moonlight, and the shadows are suffocating that light within. Her only hope is that she can survive 30 hours like this while battling the shadows”
I hold my girl close. I close my eyes and feel the mate bond, but it’s fading. I’m not losing her, but if l am, I’m going with her.
I move her hair on her right side and expose her neck. I hear the gasp from everyone as they realise what am doing, but sink my teeth into her marking spot before anyone can say anything.
I instantly feel the shadows flooding my system and invading my mind with pain and sorrow. Everything goes black, and I welcome whatever is coming next.
