Balance of Light and Shadow (By Chandrea) novel Chapter 240

Conrad POV

As soon as all the visions disappeared, I started to try and come up with a plan. Serena is made of moonlight, which explains why she glows. That might be why the shadows separated her from Lewana. If they needed to kill the light, they would be after her.

Jace was getting anxious and started whimpering while pacing back and forth. I could tell he was trying to use the bond to reach her, but there was no response. I started pacing and running my hands through my hair, trying to focus.

“Are you angry because I did something wrong?”.

I Look down at Lewana’s big blue eyes staring at me with tears starting to form. I can’t afford for her to cry again.

“No, sweetie. I’m not angry. I’m worried. Jace is worried.

You’re safe with me, but we don’t know where Serena is.

I’m worried she’s in danger”.

She seemed to think hard for a while. Her child-like face scrunches as she thinks. Goddess, I hope my daughter takes after her.

“Maybe she’s hiding. Arthur used to call out my nickname when he couldn’t find me and was worried”.

If Serena is hiding, it would make sense. But this was also my memory. We needed to be in hers.

I think for a second before retaking her hand gently.

“If we walk for a little while, can you tell me about the forest you used to play hide and seek in?”.

Her face lights up as we start to walk.

“I love the forest. I’m a super fast runner and I can climb really high. The redwoods are my favorite as they go the highest but pine trees are easier to climb”.

I let her ramble as we stroll and the forest gently changes to one I start to recognize as the Blood Moon Pack territory again. I need her to focus more.

*Well, I know you had Serena with you since you where a pup so she must of helped you hide. I know you like the trees but where did Serena like”.

She answers me as if we are just having a conversation without importance. “She likes the ground. And caves.

Sometime she wanted me to dig a hole to hide in but l couldn’t shift yet so that made it hard”.

Make sense that Serena would make a den to feel safe.

Jace’s ears prick up and he goes really still. His ears start moving as he hears a sound. I have to tell Lewana to be quite so I can try and listen to what he hears.

Unfortunately, I only have human hearing in this form, so l can only hear the trees swaying.Jace bolts at full speed and I grab Lewana and take of running after him. She squeals and holds on tight. I get closer and hear him whimpering in panic. When eventually see him my stomach drops.

She’s tiny. For a pups size she would only be about 2 months old. She was hiding in the hollow of a tree and is covered in dirt. You can see she is very underweight and weak. She is glowing but it’s very faint and flickers like a

Jace and I trudge out of the lake holding our girls and both are shivering as they are soaked to the bone. I look up at our ridge and wonder. If this really is home, then , maybe our stash of supplies is here as well.

We make our way up and to my relief it is. Dry warm clothes, blankets food and matches for a fire. We get the fire going first as we all need the warmth. Jace shakes himself dry and I towel dry him slightly but focus more on Serena. Once she is safe in Jace paws under a blanket, I take my shirt off.

It’s only when I turn around I see Lewana looking at my shirtless form confused. Shit. How am I going to do this.

“Lewana. Can you get yourself out of the wet clothes, dried and into the dry ones by yourself”.

She nods.

“Great. Stand against that wall so I can look out for. shadows and get ready”.

I only turn when I hear the high ptched ready. She looks adorable in an adult shirt. Adult Lewana normally has her shirt fitted as it is easier to battle in but on her 10ish year old frame it looks like a dress.

“Great job Lewana. Now go cuddle Jace while I get dressed

She does as instructed and I change as quick as I can.

We all snuggle on the ridge together and our girls drift of to sleep in our arms. Jace and I know we are not having a moment rest until we are out of here so we just pray that the moon will be up soon.
