Balance of Light and Shadow (By Chandrea) novel Chapter 241

Conrad POV

Time works strangely here. I haven’t seen the sun or the moon, but there is still a form of day and night. As l entered from the real world at dawn, and it is now night, l hope this correspends to the real world and that we only have to survive the day before the moon rises.

Serena’s light seems to have stabilized. It’s no longer flickering, but it is still very dim. At least it’s there.

Lewana is curled up in my lap and snuggled against my chest. I make sure she is as comfortable as possible as l hold her, determined to not only fight the shadows that threaten her but also keep them from giving her more nightmares.

It doesn’t feel like an entire night has passed when it starts to get light again, but I’m relieved when it does. I know I have to survive with our girls, but I know if the shadows need to kill us, then today might be their last chance.

Lewana starts to stir slowly in my arms, and Serena stirs in Jace’s. Thankfully, they are still connected. I wonder if that is why Serena’s light was failing before. The shadows were literally trying to tear them apart.

Lewana looks up at me with her big blue eyes and has a moment of panic before she realizes she’s safe.

“Did you sleep OK, Lewana?”She rubs her eyes and sits up as she responds. “Yeah.

You’re comfy. Is there any food? I’m hungry”.

I think and realise that even if we find food, it could be laced with anything, so I decided it’s best not to.

“We can’t eat any food here. I’m hoping though, that the Moon Goddess will help us tonight, and we might be able to go home so we can get some food then”

She thinks about my words and seems to understand, but doesn’t ask any more questions.

We stay on the ridge for what feels like a few hours, just playing games and resting. It feels safe up here, but | know it can’t last. I first see the shadows circling in the sky like storm clouds rolling. Within seconds, they start clashing in the sky and send a bolt of lightning through the lake.

Lewana screams and dives into my arms. I pick her up and start running. Jace grabs Serena in his mouth and does the same. We know we will only be safe in a cave, but we can’t find any. So we just keep running.

Lighting crashes overhead with a verosity that rivals gunfire. I’m running at full speed with Lewana in my arms as she buries her face in my shoulder.

A tree we are running past explodes into flames as lightning hits it. The force of the blast sent me flying into a tree. Thankfully, I land on my back, and Lewana is uninjured.Jace is by my side in an instant.

“CONRAD. GET UP. WE HAVE TO MOVE”.

I snap back and ignore the pain from likely broken ribs. “I know. Stay close. You still have Serena”.

“Yeah. Worried I’m going to hurt her in my jaw, but i’m not letting go.

We get up and start moving again. This seemed to just piss the shadows off more, though. The gale-force wind started blowing straight towards us, sending Jace and me to the ground. We still refused to let go of our girls.

I open my eyes and see that the storm clouds are now i swirling. They couldn’t get us with lightning, so they are now trying a tornado.

I’m spun around at nauseating speed but still try to find

Lewana despite the dust in my eyes. After what is probably mere minutes, I land on the ground with a loud thump, and the wind stops.

Everything hurts, but | try to stand. I’m startled when I hear Jace in my head again.

“Conrad, is that you? Are we together again?”

I chuckle as I reply. “Yeah, buddy. Seems that way. Ready to search for her all over again”As I stand up, I see my soldiers standing behind me at attention. I wave a hand in front of their eyes, and they don’t move. They aren’t real. I slowly turn around and face the other way. That’s when I realised where I was.

Lewana is in front of me in her adult form and looking at herself, confused. As if expecting to be in the child’s body again. But she is wearing the same outfit from the day we met. We are in the Blood Moon Pack territory again. The first day I scented her and knew she was my mate.

I call out to her. “Hello, Mate”

She smiles at me, and her eyes instantly well up with tears. She runs over and leaps into my arms and kisses me so passionately I don’t want to wake up.

I hold onto her tightly, but eventually I can only feel her hand as I open my eyes to a moon in the night sky.
