Chapter 10
After about an hour, the organizers and movers finished their job.
She’d take all her belongings away–except for the perfume and the ring.
Moving sounded like a hassle, but with determination, it could be over in no time.
And the same went for sorting through one’s feelings.
As the car headed to Stephanie’s new home, a gust of wind brushed against her hair. In the rearview mirror, she watched as the old house disappeared into the distance.
Only by putting the past behind could one move forward.
She had a lot of important things to do.
The sudden collapse of her family, Elliot’s “accident” death, and so on… She needed to get to the bottom of all of them.
In the past, she had lived for someone else.
But from now on, she’d only live for herself.
She thought, “I might as well use that music show as my fresh start. I’ll have enough money to get going, and I’m sure some of Dad’s friends will notice me.”
At this, she took out her phone, found her earlier chat with that person, and replied, “About that music show? I’m in.”

Roxanne kept crying.
Maxwell comforted her gently, but his mind kept replaying Stephanie’s expression as she left.
She stood there, saying those words while facing him with her back.
She knew exactly what he wanted her to say.
But she chose to disobey him again.
He sent her a bunch of messages, but she didn’t reply to any of them.
Within just a day or so, she had become like an entirely different person, deliberately messing with him.
She was both defiant when they were in the courthouse and the hospital.
All of a sudden, he remembered the way she had looked at him last night.
When she had asked about his decision, her eyes were tinged with a trace of sadness, but they were utterly calm.
He suddenly felt scared for no reason.
“Max, don’t blame Stephanie anymore,” Roxanne said through tears.
“I know she was upset. She saw the trending topics and came here to confront me. It was totally acceptable. After all…”
She cried even harder.
“After all, I stole from her… Max, I stole those six months rom your marriage… So, I’ll liye with however she slanders me.”
Just then, she coughed violently.

Then she coughed up a mouthful of bright red blood.
“Roxie!” Maxwell immediately panicked, wanting to call an ambulance.
He decided to take Stephanie’s odd behavior as throwing a tantrum. Of course, she’d never bear to leave him.
Roxanne shook her head and smiled weakly, “Stage four does this to people. Don’t worry.”
Claudia immediately stepped forward to help.
As Maxwell left to give Stephanie a hard time, Roxanne wiped away the blood from her mouth and spat out the blood pouch hidden in her mouth.
