Then he checked his phone again–there was still no reply from Stephanie.

After staring at the phone screen for a few minutes, he found her number in the contacts.

Suppressing the faint annoyance in his heart, he called her.

It took her a long time to answer.

“What are you doing?” he asked coldly.

“What’s up?” Instead of answering, she asked.

Rubbing his temple, he said, “Why did you go to the hospital to pick on Roxanne today?”

“I didn’t.” She sounded utterly calm. “I was there to see McKayla.”

“Don’t lie to me, Stephanie!” he snapped.

Sensing the irritation and impatience in his tone, she chuckled casually.

It seemed she wasn’t upset or bothered at all.
