Chapter 26
It was making a huge noise.
The engine roared wildly.
Taking advantage of the moment the car got stuck in the flower bed, Stephanie dashed toward her own car.
It was too risky to return to the training building as someone might be waiting.
The nearby plaza was still quite a distance away. In addition, it didn’t provide a place to hide. If she ran toward it, she could be hit before getting there.
Her best option was to get to her car, drive away, and head straight to the police.
Fortunately, she was already close to her car.
Driven by pure survival instinct, Stephanie bolted and jumped into the driver’s seat.
But just as she shut the door…
Bang!
The black car rammed into hers.
The entire car shook violently. Stephanie, sitting in the driver’s seat, felt her head spin.
“Ugh…”

Nausea welled up in her throat.
The engine roared again.
The black car backed up and came ramming forward again.
Fighting back the nausea, Stephanie started her car.
She slammed the accelerator.
Bang!
Her car shot forward, causing the black car to crash into a nearby parked vehicle.
Without hesitation, Stephanie yanked the steering wheel. Though her direction was a bit off, she managed to make it to the main road.
In the rearview mirror, she realized that the black car still hadn’t given up. She pulled out her phone and called the police.
The call was quickly connected.
“Hello, I’m being followed by a black Santana with license plate JFD703. The driver just tried to run me over. I’m currently driving down Beechwood Drive, heading toward the Eastside Police Station. I need protection!“.
Staring at the license plate in the rearview mirror, Stephanie calmly reported the key information.
The dispatcher responded promptly and coordinat police station.

Chapter 26
Everything had happened in an instant.
Her mind was in chaos.
Who could it be?
She thought through all the people connected to her.
Maxwell Humphrey, Roxanne Gregg, the Humphrey family, the Shelton family… and others.
Too many suspects. Too hard to pinpoint.
Stephanie checked her rearview mirror again and again.
At the next intersection, the black Santana seemed to realize where she was heading and veered off down another road.
Seeing it turn away, Stephanie finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She kept the call connected with the police the entire time.
Under their guidance, she continued driving to the Eastside Police Station.
It wasn’t until she saw the front gate of the station that she truly relaxed. The officers were already waiting outside.
Following their instructions, Stephanie parked in the designated spot. At last, she let her guard down completely.
But in that moment, the discomfort she had supprd overwhelmed her again.
“Ugh…”
