Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 12

“Is that Lottie?” Samantha’s voice drifted out from the hospital room.

Rebecca stopped in her tracks and glanced back, almost on instinct.

Samantha called out again, this time even more eager. “Lottie, come here, let me see you. It’s been so long. I really missed you.”

Bruce looked surprised for a split second, then caught on. He took Rebecca’s hand and led her into the room.

Samantha’s eyes widened when she saw Bruce, but her surprise quickly turned into a warm smile.

“Oh, Bruce, it’s you. I thought it was Lottie. Rebecca, can you get him a glass of water? Maybe some fruit too.”

Rebecca didn’t look thrilled about it. She got Bruce a glass of water and handed it to him, but ignored the part about the fruit.

Bruce didn’t seem bothered at all.

He stood by Samantha’s bedside, chatting with her about how she was feeling.

Samantha smiled and asked, “Have you sorted things out with the Lamont family for the engagement? How many people are coming from their side? Ours is simple, just a few of my family and Lottie, so one table is enough. I just worry the Lamonts might bring a lot of people, and I’m afraid we won’t be able to take care of everyone.”

Engagement…

Bruce almost forgot about that.

His engagement to Rebecca was at the end of next month. How could he almost forget something like that?

He shot a guilty look at Rebecca, but her face didn’t show any emotion.

At least she didn’t notice.

Bruce gently put his big, warm hand on her back, almost as if to make up for his own guilt.

He nodded. “Yeah, I’ve already talked to my family. My parents will come too. I’m also planning to invite some business partners. I’ll put together a guest list at work tomorrow and give it to Rebecca.”

Rebecca just stared at him, almost in a daze.

She frowned, looking up at his sharp features. He was handsome, with a strong jaw and confident air. She used to fall for that, but after that night, she saw him for who he really was.

He didn’t care about her. She was just useful to him.

She still didn’t get it. She’d already handed in her resignation. She wasn’t going to keep getting taken advantage of anymore. Why was he still talking about the engagement?
