Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 53

He had this nagging feeling that one day, Bruce was going to regret his choices. Oddly enough, Paul couldn’t help but feel a little excited about what might happen next. He tipped his head back and took a long drink, his dark eyes staring into the night.

After the POC with Meridian Tech ended, Rebecca tried a few times to meet with Mr. Nichols, hoping to get some feedback on how things went. Every time, he dodged her, mumbling about how busy he was. That uneasy feeling crept into Rebecca’s gut. Clearly, Meridian Tech wasn’t thrilled with their proposal. Or maybe Scott was just dead set on protecting Sonja.

Either way, Rebecca knew she could only do what she could and leave the rest to fate. Even if this was just a formality, she was going to see it through to the end. She and Justin finished up the proposal paperwork and sent it off as requested, then Rebecca got back out there hunting for new clients. Two small finance companies seemed pretty interested in what Sunforge Tech was offering.

When she got back to the office, Cindy called her over. Rebecca had always been pretty hands-off with Cindy, never making any demands or putting on any pressure. After all, she was Stephen’s little sister. What could she really say? But Cindy was the type to hold herself to high standards. She never tried to pass off her work just because of her family connections. If there was a problem, she faced it head on.

“We’ve got this long-term client,” Cindy said, sounding frustrated. “Their three-year contract’s up and they want to renew, but they’re really squeezing us on price. The last contract was a million, and now they want to knock it down by twenty percent, to eight hundred thousand. If we don’t give them the discount, they’ll just walk.”

Cindy sighed. “I’ve tried everything. Being nice, being tough, I even dropped the ‘I’m the Duncan Corporation president’s sister’ line. Nothing worked. They won’t budge.”

Rebecca took a sip of coffee and said calmly, “It’s not really surprising they didn’t move.”

Cindy shot her a look, eyes wide, as if waiting for the punchline. “What’s that supposed to mean? Are you making fun of me?”

Rebecca smiled and started breaking it down. “Duncan Corporation is a big name, sure. People respect the Duncan family, but its business is finance, and that overlaps with this client. In some ways, we’re competing with them.”

Cindy rolled her eyes. “With their size? They can’t even compete with us.”

Rebecca just smiled and let it go.
