Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 63

The black trench coat looked almost severe on him. Adding that trademark stone-cold face of his, for a moment, Rebecca felt like Bruce had shown up just to put her on trial. She moved to close the door out of pure instinct, but Bruce was faster. His strong arm shot out, holding it open with barely any effort.

“We need to talk.” His voice was low and serious, every word loaded with that familiar sense of command. There was never any room for negotiation with Bruce.

Rebecca’s whole body tensed, anger and sadness welling up inside her. After everything, how could he still speak to her like he had every right? Did he think he could just order her around because she used to love him? Was that all her feelings meant to him?

“There’s nothing to talk about, Mr. Lamont. We’re over.” Her voice was icy, her eyes even colder.

Bruce’s brow twitched in frustration. “Rebecca, this is getting ridiculous.”

She stared at him, genuinely shocked. Who was being ridiculous here? She didn’t want to waste any more breath arguing with him.

Just then, her mother’s voice called from inside the apartment. “Rebecca, who are you talking to?”

Rebecca froze. She hadn’t told her mom about quitting her job or breaking up with Bruce. She was planning to wait until after her follow-up next week. Now she had to think fast.

“Mom, I’m just running downstairs to grab something at the store. I’ll be right back.” The lie slipped out so easily it almost surprised her.

She closed the door and looked up at Bruce. “Let’s go talk in the park.”

The park below her building was beautiful, all green lawns and winding paths. She and Bruce had walked there together so many times, sharing quiet moments, holding each other close. Now, it all just felt like ancient history.

“So what do you want, Bruce? I honestly don’t see what we have left to talk about.” Her tone was flat, almost bored.

Bruce let out a short, bitter laugh. He stared at her, his eyes cool and unreadable. After a long pause, he said quietly, “This is the first time I’ve realized you’re such a good liar.”
