Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 65

Kristin always kept Bruce on a tight leash. Ever since he was a kid, she laid down the law—no smoking, no drinking, no messing around. His two best friends knew the drill, so they never tried to tempt him with a drink or a cigarette.

Bruce looked worn out. He walked in, flopped onto the sofa, and without a word, grabbed a glass from the table and finished it in one go. Paul and Morris glanced at each other.

“Take it easy,” Paul said, quick to snatch the glass from Bruce’s hand as he reached for another.

Morris slid over from the other couch. “What’s up, man? Did your granddad give you trouble again?”

The old guy had never accepted Bruce or his mom, and over the years, he’d made that pretty clear.

Bruce shook his head. “No.”

“Then what is it?” Morris scratched his head. “Did you and Sonja get into a fight?”

“No.”

“Then what happened?”

Bruce slouched back into the sofa, looking completely defeated. After a long pause, his voice came out rough. “Rebecca wants to break up with me. She just finished her resignation at the company today.”

The room went totally silent.

“No way!” Morris finally snapped out of it, so shocked he nearly spit out his drink. He’d seen how much Rebecca loved Bruce, so this just didn’t make sense.

Paul’s hand paused halfway to his mouth, less dramatic but just as surprised. He asked, “Why’d she break up with you?”

Bruce sighed. “She found out Sonja started working at the company. And she knows Sonja and I grew up together…”

Morris nodded like he had it all figured out. “Oh, that’s it. She’s jealous.”

Bruce rubbed at his temples. “Yeah, I know. But I didn’t expect her to go this far. I never thought she’d actually quit her job without saying a word to me.”

Morris shrugged. “Come on, that’s normal. The more a girl loves you, the more likely she is to make a scene. If she stops caring, that’s when you should worry.”
