Liam hurried over and handed Rebecca all the paperwork he’d promised her, including the contract. “Mr. Duncan said you’ve finished your resignation, so he asked me to bring you the Sunforge Tech contract.”

Rebecca had wrapped up her resignation yesterday and immediately let Stephen know. She just wanted to tell him that she was officially done with NovaStack Cloud, so he could stop worrying. She hadn’t expected Stephen to be so thoughtful and have the new contract ready for her in advance.

She took the documents from Liam. “Thanks, Liam. I’ll sign these and bring them back to you.”

Liam just grinned and told her not to worry, then headed out.

Rebecca opened her office door and, out of habit, glanced out into the open area. She caught a few coworkers quickly ducking their heads, suddenly looking very busy. It was obvious they’d been trying to listen in on her conversation with Liam.

Rebecca frowned but shrugged it off. Her relationship with most of her team was still pretty distant, so their curiosity made sense.

As soon as her office door shut, the whole place filled with a storm of keyboard clacking. Their group chat was blowing up.

[No way, Liam himself came to deliver her documents. If anyone says there’s nothing going on between her and Mr. Duncan, I don’t buy it.]

[For real. I used to think all those rumors about her were gross, but now I just feel like a fool. I’m not gonna feel bad for a girl who slept her way up.]

[She was bragging about working with the new guy on product updates not long ago. Is that true? If it is, maybe she’s got some skills.]

[Skills? Please. If she actually pulled off anything impressive, she’d have announced it to the whole company by now. She hasn’t said a word. That bid must’ve flopped.]

Meanwhile, Rebecca had no idea what her coworkers were saying. She stayed focused on her work, lost in her own world. It wasn’t until almost lunchtime that she remembered she hadn’t given Liam the signed contract yet. She hurried upstairs to find him.

After handing over the contract, she noticed Stephen was in his office. She knocked and poked her head in, just to thank him.
