Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 75

“It’s not for me,” Rebecca said. “I brought my mom in for a follow-up.”

Paul glanced over and spotted a middle-aged lady who looked a lot like Rebecca. He nodded. “Alright.”

Neither of them said anything after that. The silence stretched between them, heavy and awkward.

Rebecca finally broke it. “Sorry, I’m going to grab some water.”

“Alright.”

She figured that made things clear. She was leaving, so they didn’t need to keep talking. But when she turned away from the vending machine with a bottle of water in her hand, Paul was still there, standing right behind her.

Rebecca frowned. Maybe she hadn’t made herself clear enough.

Even though she’d worked in sales for years, Rebecca had always been gentle by nature, never pushy. She didn’t want to cause a scene, so she dropped her voice and tried again. “Bruce and I broke up.”

Paul nodded. “Yeah, you mentioned that last time.”

He clearly wasn’t getting the hint. Rebecca decided to be blunt. “Since Bruce and I broke up, there isn’t really anything left to say between us. If we run into each other again, let’s just pretend we’re strangers.”

Paul pressed his lips together. “Are you job hunting? If you want, you could join Larson Group. You can set your own salary.”

Rebecca blinked, caught off guard. She hadn’t expected Paul to offer her a job. Noticing her surprise, he smiled a little. “I know what you’re capable of. Honestly, it would be Larson Group’s honor to have you.”

The compliment was nice, but she had no intention of accepting. She shook her head. “Thanks, but no.”

“You’re turning it down because you want to avoid any awkwardness?”

“No, it’s just that I already found a new job.”
