Sunforge Tech’s pre-sales manager, Justin, was younger than Rebecca by a year and always seemed to bring a burst of energy into the room. When he knocked and stepped inside, Rebecca got up and poured him a glass of water without missing a beat. Stephen had already mentioned Rebecca’s one-month trial to him, so her presence didn’t catch Justin off guard.

It didn’t take them long to settle on a basic plan for the Meridian Tech bid. Before they could submit anything official, they needed to meet the client, walk them through a system demonstration, and get a sense of whether the interest was real. In the industry, everyone just called this the pre-sales stage, or POC.

Rebecca told Justin to work on the pre-sales materials and set the visit for Meridian Tech in three days.

Once the business talk was over, Justin took a sip of his water, hesitating as if he had a question he wasn’t sure he should ask. Rebecca caught the look and smiled at him.

“If you’re curious, just ask. No point making yourself sick over it.”

That made Justin blush and rub the back of his neck, but he finally spoke up.

“Ms. Harper, you used to be at NovaStack Cloud. Aren’t you worried Mr. Lamont might get mad that you’re joining a rival?”

Justin had heard she’d been with NovaStack Cloud from the very start, practically a legend there. Some people even whispered that her relationship with Bruce was more than just business.

Rebecca gave a soft smile. She could tell Justin’s marketing instincts were sharp.

“He’s not going to be upset. I was just another salesperson. NovaStack Cloud will be just fine without me,” she said, her tone steady and calm.

And with Sonja in the picture, Bruce wasn’t likely to be angry anyway. He’d probably be happy she was out of the way so he could get closer to his first love again.

“Oh, okay,” Justin said, scratching his head again, second-guessing all the gossip he’d heard. Why would someone work for their fiancé’s biggest competitor? Must have been just rumors after all.
