Chapter 94
Taylor.
I was sitting on the large couch in my bedroom, staring off into the distance. It was supposed to be my time of solitude, a time to sit with my thoughts, and it would have been if Max hadn’t been hunched over and pacing from one corner to the other.

wanted my attention.
He hadn’t said anything yet, but that’s what he wanted, and I couldn’t be bothered. I was plagued by my own thoughts.
I stretched out my legs and laid down, blocking out Max completely. I brought my fingers to my mouth and began to bite down on my nails.
I had played my cards quite early, much earlier than I had planned to, Ivy had forced my hand when we got into that big fight, and she said all those horrible things to me.
I didn’t see it coming; I didn’t expect her to react in that manner. I was so mad, I couldn’t think clearly. The moment I got off the phone with Max, I sent the pictures to her with a big smile on my face.
My initial plan was to also leak it to the media, a two–for–one special, to ruin Ivy and Asher at the same time. It would have been a loud bang, maybe this would have been the last straw for him.
He was beloved by everyone, but so was Ivy. I rolled my eyes far back; I didn’t get it, but the latest hot topic in town was Asher and Ivy’s love. The media wouldn’t have given Ivy a break, and they would have pounced hard on Asher.
I was willing to sacrifice myself to watch the crash out on a grander stage, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t leak the pictures to the media.
The media was still dealing with the news of me betraying my former best friend by taking her ex–boyfriend, Max, to bed. A news story Ivy herself had leaked in a fit of rage.
I clenched my fists hard until my fingernails dug into my palm. I had to lay off work for a bit; my PR team was working overtime to smooth things out.
It would have been a lot easier if Ivy and I were talking, but Ivy was probably so mad at me, she could kill me if I came close.
So, if I had leaked the pictures of myself and Ivy’s new husband, Asher, the media – those vipers – would have crushed me.
Now, I would have to wait, satisfied in the knowledge that their marriage was turbulent even though they were hiding it, acting like they were so in love.
It was all PR! All the events they were doing together; it was such a shame that only I could see it…
Max shook me hard. “Taylor!”
I blinked repeatedly and sat upright. “What?” I asked with furrowed brows.
“Did you hear a word I just said?” he asked.
I shook my head and folded my arms across my chest.“You’ve been pacing for minutes. I figured you didn’t have anything important to say in the first place, or else you’d have already said it. What were you saying?”
His jaw tightened, and his fists clenched at his sides. “You told me you’d win her over. You swore you had some grand plan to bring Ivy back to me, and I believed you.” His voice cracked with anger as he faked his fingers through his hair. “I followed you into the fire because you promised it would work and that in the end, Ivy would be mine.”
I crossed my legs and stared at him. Anger radiated off him in waves. He was trembling at some point, like he was fighting to stay restrained, but I was completely unfazed. This was typical Max – losing control and ranting like a mad dog.
“You haven’t won her over yet, and after everything, she still doesn’t want me!” he yelled in frustration. “I don’t get it, Taylor! Those pictures should’ve blown them up- destroyed them!” His hand slashed through the air as he gestured wildly. “But no, they’re still together. Stronger together. Have you

seen their recent pictures all over social media? Ivy and Asher, all smiles, holding hands, looking like the goddamn poster couple for happily ever after! Can you believe she still doesn’t want me? Can you believe that?” he asked, disbelief etched across his face.
“Oh, for fuck’s sake! Of course, I can!” I retorted angrily. His head snapped up, shock flickering in his eyes as I held his gaze unflinchingly. “You heard me right, Max. I understand why she doesn’t want you!” My patience was hanging by a thread.
I rose to my feet and strode toward him, my eyes narrowing into slits. “Of course, Ivy will never want you back. It doesn’t come as a surprise to me–or anyone else for that matter!” I shook my head, my voice rising. “As a matter of fact, I, for one, never understood why she was with you in the first place! You’re so undeserving of her!” I snapped.
The color drained from his face, his shoulders slouching as his eyes filled with defeat. “What the hell is wrong with you, Taylor? What the hell is wrong with you?”
I chuckled dryly. “She doesn’t like you, Max. She could never like you! Why can’t you fucking see it?” I screamed. “Not anymore.” Grabbing his face, I forced him to look me in the eye. “Asher is an upgrade from you. He’s a far better man than you are, or could ever dream to be. Asher Sterling is handsome. He’s tall! He’s a billionaire! There’s nothing you’re better at than him,” I said, laughing bitterly. “I haven’t had sex with the man yet, but i bet his dick game is fire compared to yours. I mean, look at him! He’s got the money, the looks. Next to him, you’re a nobody.”
“Taylor…” he called out, his voice strained,
“No!” I snapped, pointing a finger at him. “You’ll listen to me this time. You were just a guy she used to fill the void in her life, the void created by her own insecurities. You were a tool to mask her self–doubt despite being so pretty, so rich, and so famous. Apparently, none of that was enough.”
Max slumped onto the sofa, burying his face in his hands.
“Her parents never liked you,” I continued mercilessly. “I knew because she was my best friend. They merely tolerated you. You’re unfit to be a Whitfield son–in–law. But Asher? Asher is every family’s dream in–law. Now that she has him, now that she’s tasted what it’s like to be loved by a man like that, a man who has it all – she’s never going to settle for less. Never. Get that into your thick skull!”
“Taylor!” he croaked, his voice breaking.
