Old Mr. Foster arrived with the test results.
All of old Mrs. Blackwell's vitals were normal.
The wear and tear of old age was unavoidable, of course.
But her organ function had improved significantly.
Based on the current data, she would at least no longer be bedridden, unable to eat or even open her eyes.
Isabel breathed a sigh of relief.
Old Mr. Foster then told her, "The tests on Selena's end are quite similar to what you're looking into. I can't get too involved, unfortunately. It's impossible to avoid Adrian, and if he gets suspicious, it won't be good for you. So, Isabel, this is as far as I can go."
"Thank you, Mr. Foster," Isabel said. "You don't need to apologize. You've done more than enough for me. I'll handle the rest myself."
After hanging up with Mr. Foster, she immediately called Julian.
"Julian, any news on that thing I asked you to do?"
A distinct click came through the line, likely Julian lighting a cigarette.
"Sweetheart, I nearly got myself killed for you."
Isabel was confused. "What do you mean?"
Julian didn't mention being cornered and chased recently.
By his enemies, and by Adrian.
Heh.
He knew it wouldn't be that simple.
But that's what made it interesting, wasn't it?
"Are you divorced yet? I've been waiting so long the flowers have wilted."
Isabel was in no mood for jokes. "Just tell me first, what exactly did Selena do abroad?"
Julian deliberately evaded the question. "That's a big secret. I can only tell my wife, the one on my marriage certificate. So, sorry, sweetheart."
Only then did Isabel notice something was off. "Are you hurt?"
His voice had a faint weakness that the smoke couldn't quite cover.
Coupled with his earlier comment about 'nearly getting killed,' it was highly likely he was injured.
"Getting hurt is like grabbing a bite to eat for me. Anyway, that's enough. I've got things to do. Remember, if your next call isn't to tell me you're divorced, I'm not picking up."
"Wait..."
Before Isabel could finish, he hung up.
She rubbed her temples.
Still, his words contained a clue.
If it was a 'big secret.'
