Adrian hadn’t invited her biological mother—the woman everyone referred to as her aunt.
So, her only hope was Isabel.
Even though her heart was filled with rage and resentment, she had no choice but to beg.
Only by staying alive could she hope to turn things around.
“Save me,” Selena pleaded, clutching Isabel’s hand.
Isabel’s phone was knocked to the floor. Julian picked it up for her.
She frowned at Selena, who was now kneeling on the ground, her face a mess of tear-streaked, ruined makeup, her eyes wide with terror.
Isabel couldn’t comprehend what was happening.
Adrian had already strode over and was pulling Selena to her feet. “What is the meaning of this?”
Now, just the sound of his voice was enough to trigger a panic response in Selena.
She clung to Isabel desperately, her nails digging into Isabel’s skin and drawing blood.
Julian pushed her away and examined Isabel’s hand. “Looks like you’ll need a rabies shot for that.”
Isabel had lost all desire to stay. She stood up to leave.
Julian rose to follow, but he was a second too slow.
Adrian seized Isabel’s left hand, pulling her back. “Mrs. Reed, the wedding isn’t over. Where do you think you’re going? Or is attending my wedding so painful that you can’t bear to stay?”
Isabel stared at him coldly. “I’m in a hurry to get that rabies shot.”
Julian added, “If you would, Mr. Blackwell, please let her go. You should be paying attention to your own bride.”
Adrian’s eyes were fixed on her, searching for any flicker of emotion on her face. “You can just stand there and watch me marry someone else?”
“What does that have to do with me?” Isabel tried to pull her hand back. “I have a husband and a child. My husband is Julian, my son is Edmund, and my name is Isabel Ashford, of the Durantin family.”
