Isabel tried to stand as Oliver rushed over, but he still bumped into her right hand.
She used to think that with no family of her own, having a child to share her bloodline would be wonderful.
But now, she felt that this father and son were nothing but bad luck for her.
If she had known then what she knew now, she wouldn't have forced Adrian to marry her. She should have demanded enough money to last several lifetimes.
But she had chosen this path.
And now, all she wanted was to get this divorce over with.
Oliver, however, was displeased by Isabel's attempt to dodge him.
He thought she was still being petty and angry about him visiting Auntie Selena and being friends with her.
But his dad had told him not to mention any of that today, in case it upset great-grandma and made her feel unwell.
After all, great-grandma had undergone heart surgery.
He just frowned at Isabel without saying a word.
Isabel understood his look perfectly.
She had raised him, after all.
But what did it matter?
He could misunderstand her all he wanted.
She no longer cared.
“Grandma.” Selena and Adrian walked in side by side.
Selena was carrying several very expensive gifts.
She had brought something not only for old Mrs. Blackwell but for every single member of the Blackwell family.
“I’ve been back for a while now. I was planning to visit Holy Trinity Cathedral to pray for everyone, but I heard it collapsed. I suppose after being abroad for so long, the saints here don't recognize me anymore.”
“The collapse also caused some lung issues, so I’ve been resting. I’m only now able to come see everyone. I hope you won’t hold it against me.”
Mrs. Blackwell was the first to rush over, taking Selena’s hand with concern. “Why didn’t you say anything? I would have come to visit you.”
“It was nothing serious. I didn’t want to worry everyone.”
Selena and Adrian had grown up together in the same neighborhood.
She had spent plenty of time at the Blackwell home as a child.
