“...”
Isabel had no rebuttal for that.
But upon reflection, she realized this was still about Selena.
The waiter had seen her slap Selena at the restaurant.
Although Adrian had likely suppressed the incident, he would never trust her.
He was convinced that her dislike for Selena would lead her to spread malicious rumors.
After all, she had once loved him so desperately; it would be perfectly normal for her to act out against Selena.
In that moment, she realized she had cornered herself.
Promises were meaningless. She didn't know what to say.
A tense silence stretched between them.
Adrian was the first to speak. “Oliver has been listless ever since that day. He's at Halcyon Hills Residence resting. Since you were the one who insisted on having him, you need to take responsibility.”
Isabel had wanted to have a child with him.
But she had never intended to use such methods from the start.
It was Old Mrs. Blackwell who had orchestrated it, without her prior knowledge.
Once she was pregnant, filled with love for him, she couldn't bring herself to terminate it.
Combined with her forcing the marriage and Old Mrs. Blackwell's help, she couldn't explain her way out of it even if she had eight mouths.
In the end, she had accepted the blame.
“I’ll go see him. Is that all, Mr. Blackwell? I won't see you out.”
Adrian glanced around her apartment, his brows furrowing in what looked like disgust.
He didn't linger.
As he walked down the stairs, he left her with a final, cold remark. “I can give Old Mr. Foster face, but I won't do it every time.”
At that moment, Isabel assumed he was talking about Selena.
She didn't want to waste any more mental energy trying to decipher his words.
She went back inside, took a shower, read for a bit, and went to sleep.
It was only the next day at the lab, when Dylan told her that the Walsh’s herb garden had terminated their partnership, that she finally understood the true meaning of Adrian's words from the night before.
