Isabel shot him a glare before turning to thank Amanda.

They ate cake and sang songs.

Since Isabel couldn't drink yet, she stuck to juice.

Later, Dylan and Amanda had a bit too much to drink.

Isabel ended up driving them home one by one.

Thankfully, with an automatic car, driving with just her left hand was manageable. She could even use her right to shift gears now.

She dropped Amanda off first, whose husband was already waiting at the door to take her.

Isabel leaned back. “Don’t you dare throw up on me, or I swear I’ll bash your head in.”

Dylan suddenly grinned.

He had sharp canines that gave his smile a boyish charm, a surprising complement to his usual attitude.

Isabel just found it strange.

She’d never seen Dylan truly drunk before. Lab work required a clear head, so they always drank in moderation.

If he turned out to be a messy drunk, she really would bash his head in.

But Dylan pulled back, leaning against the seat and taking a deep breath. “Happy birthday,” he said. “You’re one year older.”

Isabel let out a forced laugh, her voice tight. “Oh, thank you so much.”
