Blizzard, First Love and a Wife Who Finally Snaps novel Chapter 96

"You still have the nerve to smile? Something this huge happens, and you don't make a peep. Is that mouth of yours just for show? If you're not going to talk, what's the point? Maybe I should just cut your tongue out for you."

Old Mr. Reed didn't hesitate to kick him. "Go eat in the corner."

Julian took his bowl and squatted in the corner, a movement that seemed all too familiar. He'd probably been doing it since he was a child.

Isabel, on the other hand, felt a bit awkward. She used the serving utensils to give him some meat. "Julian, you should eat more too."

Julian didn't take anything to heart. A smile played on his lips, his charming eyes filled with mock affection. "Food from my dear Isabel tastes better than anything I could get myself."

Old Mr. Reed looked ready to explode again, so Isabel quickly served him some food, coaxing, "Don't be angry. Julian doesn't mean any harm, he just likes to joke."

Old Mr. Reed shot Julian a glare and went back to eating.

Isabel breathed a sigh of relief. Men, no matter their age, could be so childish.

...

Another two days passed. Isabel's treatment was complete.

Her right hand would never fully recover to its pre-injury state. That was impossible.

Old Mr. Reed had done all he could. The rest depended on how well she could handle a test tube on her own.

"When I have time, I'll come visit you again."

Old Mr. Reed walked them to the edge of the path, said nothing, and turned back to his cabin.

Isabel got into the car with Julian and thanked him politely. "Thank you for the trouble, Julian."

Julian leaned against the car door with a roguish air. "Drop the polite act with me. It sounds weird."

Isabel smiled. "I forgot you don't do polite."

Julian laughed too. "But I do do reason." He added, "It's just that when they don't listen to reason, I have to stop being polite."
