Sheryl was implying that Lucinda might have beaten her up even more if there hadn't been so many people around.

Gareth was definitely incited by her words. "Sheryl, does she hit you often?"

Tears streamed down Sheryl's face as she played the innocent and pitiful role to perfection.

Glaring at Lucinda, Gareth shouted, "How can you be so despicable?"

This time, Lucinda couldn't even be bothered to roll her eyes.

Valerie couldn't bear to watch her friend being ganged up on like that. "Sir, before you start spewing nonsense, can you at least learn what actually happened?"

She pointed straight at Sheryl. "My friend and I were eating when she suddenly threw a drink at us. If my friend hadn't dodged in time, her face and hair would've been soaked. Anyone would have been angry at that kind of provocation, don't you think?"

It was only then that Gareth noticed Valerie's stunning looks.

Sheryl defended herself as she cried, "I didn't do it on purpose!"

Gareth forced himself to tear his gaze away from Valerie's breathtaking looks. "Sheryl is so painfully kind, so how could she ever throw a drink at someone? Clearly, the two of you are trying to frame and gang up on her."

Valerie was speechless.

She thought idiots like this would be extinct by now, but apparently, one was alive and standing right in front of her.

Valerie asked, "Lucinda, after returning to Windmere this past year, what kind of life have you been living?"

Lucinda smiled bitterly. "You've seen it yourself. My life is full of idiots."

Valerie patted Lucinda on the shoulder. "You poor thing."

Gareth continued to shout, "If you don't apologize to Sheryl, I'll tell Mr. and Mrs. Byron all about your wicked behavior. You'd better understand one thing—your so-called blood means nothing compared to 20 years of familial affection."

Gareth was clearly implying that Lucinda would never surpass Sheryl's place in her parents' hearts, even if Lucinda were the real daughter of the Byron family.
