Trying to humiliate Valerie in public like this? Sonia was still too naïve.
Valerie pushed the staff member aside, smiling. "Let me take a look."
After a few quick taps on the keyboard, the blacked-out screen suddenly flickered to life.
The footage Sonia had wiped was quickly restored by Valerie's skills.
In the crowd, Sonia's expression hardened. She hadn't expected Valerie to still be alive, and her suspicions from back on the cruise were now confirmed.
Valerie was indeed her equal when it came to hacking.
Once the footage resumed, it clearly showed Sheryl deliberately splashing the drink on Lucinda.
No wonder Lucinda had slapped her. It was more than justified.
Sheryl had raised her cup unprovoked and dumped it over Lucinda. What else could that be but a deliberate provocation?
Valerie pointed at the laptop screen. "Do you see it clearly now, sir? Whose fault was this?"
Sheryl rushed to defend herself. "That's not how it happened! I tripped over something while walking by!"
A bystander couldn't take it anymore. "Miss, at least make your lies sound logical. The video clearly shows that no one touched you."
Sheryl stammered, "The video was edited!"
The crowd was rendered silent. Did she think they were blind or brainless?
Meanwhile, Gareth had lost all his earlier bravado.
Even though Lucinda shouldn't have hit Sheryl, it was also true that Sheryl had set off Lucinda.
Lucinda, who had been silent all this time, finally spoke. "The aunt of this pitiful little woman here used to be a caretaker in my family. We were both born on the same day. Out of jealousy, her aunt swapped us at birth.
"So, she lived in luxury for over 20 years, enjoying the life that should have been mine. As for me, her aunt sold me to human traffickers. I grew up in an orphanage, where I suffered all forms of abuse."
With each sentence she spoke, the crowd's eyes widened further. This was straight out of a soap opera.
Lucinda continued calmly, "Even after being brought back, my parents couldn't bring themselves to truly love me. Instead, they treated her like their own daughter. And that man who's been defending her so fiercely? He was originally my arranged fiancé.
"I've told him countless times that I wasn't interested, and that he could be with her freely. Yet, he still sees me as an enemy and blames me for taking her place."
Inwardly, Valerie gave Lucinda a thumbs-up.
As expected of Lucinda. She knew exactly how to take advantage of the moment.
