Lucius lowered his head and pressed a light kiss to Valerie's forehead.
He said softly, "I have something to take care of. Wait for me here."
The moment he stepped out of the bedroom, the faint smile on his face vanished.
Silas had been waiting outside for quite some time. He said in a low voice, "Mr. White, the car is ready."
Without replying, Lucius followed him out with Silas leading the way.
Half an hour later, Lucius arrived at the White family's private punishment hall, accompanied by Silas and over a dozen bodyguards.
In the dead of the night, the place was thick with a chilling, eerie atmosphere. Shrill screams were coming from inside, adding to the sense of dread.
The guards flanking the entrance called out loudly, "Mr. White!"
Surrounded by his men, Lucius entered with a dark and cold expression.
The stench of blood hit him at once, and Lucius pulled out a handkerchief and held it to his nose.
Even though he'd long grown used to scenes like this, he still loathed the scent of blood.
"Mr. Lucius, you're here!" A young man who was around 26 years old stepped forward with a bloodstained whip in hand.
He was Harrison White, Lucius' cousin and the head of the family's punishment hall.
Silas immediately moved to block him, warning, "Keep that whip away. Don't dirty his clothes."
Realizing his mistake, Harrison quickly flung the whip aside, and one of his men caught it in mid-air. "Apologies. I didn't mean to offend."
Every one of Lucius' shirts was pure white and crisp. They were all perfectly pressed, without a single wrinkle on them.
That immaculate appearance alone was enough to inspire a sense of quiet respect.
Lucius ignored the apology. "Did you get anything useful?"
It wasn't that he hadn't tried asking, but those men seemed like they would rather die than reveal it.
Of course, it was also possible that they simply didn't know.
Just then, a bloodied man suddenly crawled toward them. "Mr. White, it's me! It's Watson Zinger!"
The man stumbled on all fours, but before he could get close, a hard kick to the stomach from Silas sent him flying backward.
He rolled across the floor and lay there, clutching his gut, and was unable to move for a long while.
Silas started to step forward to finish the job, but Lucius raised a hand to stop him. Lucius ordered, "Bring him over."
Harrison grabbed Watson by the collar and threw him in front of Lucius.
Groaning in pain, Watson tried to curry favor. "Mr. White, I'm Caelus' cousin. We used to play together when we were kids."
