Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 106

The report showed standard markers for pregnancy—follicle, progesterone, and human chorionic gonadotropin. Giselle was undeniably pregnant.

She stared at the report, frozen. For a moment, she completely forgot the pain wracking her body. To confirm the results, she asked the doctor to schedule an ultrasound.

Despite her fever and pounding headache, she waited through the queue, endured the exam, and finally received the ultrasound report. When she saw the words "intrauterine pregnancy with a single live fetus" printed on the sheet, her head felt like it might explode.

"The fetus looks to be about two months along. Everything seems normal. Have you decided if you're keeping the baby?" the doctor asked after reviewing the results.

Giselle was in a daze, unable to accept what she was hearing. She still felt like a child herself. How could she possibly be pregnant, and two months along at that?

It explained her recent symptoms. Her appetite had been off, she'd been nauseous, sleeping poorly, and always feeling uncomfortable and drained. She had brushed it off, never imagining this was the reason.

She'd been with Donovan for over a year. They always used protection, and on the rare occasions they didn't, she took emergency contraception. And even when she hadn't, nothing had ever happened. She wasn't someone who conceived easily, so this was completely unexpected.

The news had arrived like a bombshell, just when she was already emotionally shattered.

"Ms. Holt?" The doctor saw her stunned expression and gently asked again. "Are you planning to keep the baby? If so, I'll prescribe the proper medication."

Giselle took a deep breath and nodded slowly, but then immediately shook her head. Her voice trembled as she asked, "If I decide not to keep it, can the procedure be done today?"

The doctor shook her head. "No, not today. You'll need to schedule it in advance. The earliest available date is the 25th. Are you sure you don't want the baby? It looks healthy, and you're at a good age for childbirth."

Giselle was silent for a moment, then gave a faint shake of her head.

Her emotions were tangled, overwhelmed by a heavy, suffocating sense of dread and sadness that made it hard to breathe.

She holed up at home for about three days. Her fever finally broke, and her symptoms began to fade, but the question of what to do about the pregnancy tormented her day and night.

She thought about her age, not yet 27, her fractured childhood, the bitterness she carried, and most of all, the pain Donovan had brought into her life. All of it made her want to choose a quiet, private end to this chapter.

But then she remembered the possibility that she might never have another child. She couldn't bring herself to make the final decision.

In the end, on a quiet evening, she drove to Donovan's villa.

She had made up her mind to see him one last time.
