Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 141

The police officer nodded while jotting things down in his notebook. Then, he looked up at Giselle and asked, "Were you familiar with Mr. Kane before this incident?"

"No, not at all," she responded without the slightest hesitation.

Noticing that the officer was about to press further, Gideon cut in impatiently, "That's enough. Both of us were equally involved in this fight, so neither of us will press charges.

"All you have to do is issue us a fine and go through the formalities. I don't want you to drag this on and mess with my recovery."

Just then, another officer who had just learned Donovan's identity leaned in and whispered something to the officer in charge of taking their statement. Hence, in the end, no case was filed.

The officers issued a warning to both parties and slapped them with a 2,000-dollar fine before leaving the hospital.

After the cops left, Giselle went to the restroom. When she emerged, she received a call from the manager at her animal clinic. After discussing a few recent cases for half an hour, she headed back to the emergency ward.

However, when she stepped into the room, she was surprised to find Donovan's hospital bed empty. He appeared to have just left.

Giselle made her way to Gideon's bedside as usual, feeling a little uneasy.

"Took you long enough." Gideon, who was drowsy, opened his eyes when he heard her return. "I thought you left."

"Has that person left?" she couldn't help but inquire.

"His background doesn't concern me," she said before changing the subject. "Regardless, you drank with me tonight and even took all those punches for me. I really do owe you a proper thank-you."

"How are you planning to thank me? By giving yourself to me?" he teased.

"I don't like it when you make those crass jokes, Gideon." Her expression hardened before she turned to leave.

Noticing her sudden change in expression and the tension thickening, Gideon froze for a few seconds. Then, in a way he had never acted around a woman before, he softened his tone and coaxed her, "Alright, alright. My bad. I won't tease you anymore, okay?

"I'm just a dumbass. Please don't be mad at me."
