Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 153

"Who is it?"

"He appears to be in his 40s or 50s. He wears glasses and looks pretty stern. He gives off the air of some big boss," the store manager described.

Giselle set down the cat she was about to give an injection to and walked out. To her surprise, it was Ethan.

"Hello, Mr. Kane," she greeted him halfheartedly. "What brings you to my humble shop?"

Ethan glanced at a nearby lounge and said in a low voice, "Let's talk over there."

"Alright." Giselle had one of the staff bring Ethan coffee. She went to wash her hands before joining him in the lounge.

"Let's hear what you have to say, Mr. Kane. You're obviously busier than I am, so if you've come all the way here, it must be for something important."

Ethan took a sip of his coffee and paused for a moment before responding coldly, "I think you know very well why I'm here."

"Sorry, but I really don't."

He gazed at her for a while before continuing, "Ms. Holt, because of you, my son was seriously injured. Donovan's work and personal life have also been severely affected. On top of that, his grandmother has recently fallen ill.

"The entire household is in disarray. Out of respect for your father, I had planned to let things slide, as long as you stayed away from Don. But I never imagined you'd turn around and start getting involved with my other adopted son.

"Tell me, what exactly are you playing at?" His eyes were cold and full of contempt as he looked at her.

Giselle sat alone in the lounge, zoning out for a while.

She used to think Ethan was laid-back and easygoing. After all, he spent all his time at work and never involved himself in their family's drama. He was, for the most part, tolerant toward an outsider like her.

Who would have thought that the moment Gideon's interests were at stake, the high-and-mighty chairman would get down from his pedestal and show up to warn her? It almost seemed like his adopted son mattered more to him than his own flesh and blood.

Her thoughts were in disarray, her chest felt tight, her head ached, and it was as if the whole world had issued a warrant for her arrest.

Giselle couldn't figure out why every man she'd crossed paths with in the last two years turned out to be trouble. Did she really have to seal her heart away for good to survive?

While she was still lost in her thoughts, the store manager came rushing in with another piece of bad news.
