Donovan glanced at the report and saw that it was Anne's ultrasound report. At the end of the report, it confirmed that the patient was having an intrauterine pregnancy. Anne was pregnant.
He paused and asked, "What is the meaning of this?"
"It's your baby." Anne was blushing as she added bashfully, "It was that night at the hospital, when we did—"
"Didn't I order you to take medication after that?" Sudden fury arose in his heart.
"I—" Anne quickly calmed as she recited the words she had prepared earlier. "I had done a women's health examination in the past, and the doctor told me that I had PCOS, so the chance of me getting pregnant is already very low, that's why I didn't take the medicine.
"I didn't think we would get so lucky. Who knew… I can only say that this baby is destined to be with us."
Donovan tossed the report aside. He cradled his forehead, frustrated, and was silent for a long while. However, he didn't release his wrath on Anne.
He still had no recollection of that alleged night at the hospital, and he didn't feel anything other than endless frustration when the news of the baby came.
"Sorry, Don. I know you have no plans to have a child now, yet I've made you a father. I know you're not going to be happy, but think about it—you're not so young anymore, and this baby came at just the right time. Why don't we accept it and go through with the wedding, so this baby can come into this world as a legitimate child?"
Donovan was still icily stoic. His expression gave nothing away.
He was adamant about not getting married. He didn't want to get married; naturally, he, of course, didn't want children as well.
If it were the past, once he knew that he had accidentally gotten someone pregnant, he would have her get it settled immediately.
However, after the delivery from Giselle had left him utterly damaged the last time, as he was reminded about that pile of gory, bloody substance, he was deeply traumatised, and became oddly sensitive to words like abortion.
"But you're the person I love the most in my life. Besides, the news of us getting engaged has already gone out. Everyone in our social circle knows that our families are about to have a marital alliance.
"Now that we have a child together, isn't getting married the expected next step? Why are you so reluctant? That bitch had broken up with you completely, and you've sent her to be detained. Are you still harping—"
"Shut up!" Donovan couldn't help but feel annoyed as he heard what she had said. "I don't want to hurt you. Calling off the wedding is the best choice there is. Find someone else more suitable and live your life. I'll raise the child alone next time."
"No! I refused to let my child live without a mom the moment he was born, without a complete family. I outright refuse! No matter what, Don, let's just get married first, and then, we'll welcome the baby together. Even if we get to live a few years as a normal pair of husband and wife, and we can't continue, we can still divorce then."
"Are you done yet?" Donovan loathed having to deal with a woman crying to him while demanding him to be emotionally present. He shot up from his leather seat and walked toward his full glass window to take a breather.
"If you cannot accept this arrangement, you can go for an abortion." He finally uttered words more cruel than the last. "We're not emotionally involved. I don't have an emotional attachment to this baby. Not having this child is the best choice there is."
