After accompanying Gideon to get his wound bandaged, Giselle stayed by his side for another two hours. Eventually, his driver fetched him back to the villa to rest.
By the time Giselle returned to her own place, it was already nighttime.
She collapsed onto the bed, drained of all strength. She had no appetite, no energy to shower, and not even the will to check her phone. She was overwhelmed by a wave of crushing loneliness.
She had once gone to such lengths to win Donovan over.
And yet, in the end, his engagement to Anne hadn't wavered in the slightest. Now they even had a child together.
Giselle was painfully aware that she had utterly lost. She pulled the blanket over her head as painful memories flooded in. With each one cutting deeper, her heart felt shredded.
She barely slept that night.
When she finally woke up, it was already mid-afternoon. Her head ached, her body felt weak, and she was drained from restless dreams.
The dim light through the curtains only made the room feel emptier. Seeing that all the notifications she received were work-related, her loneliness intensified.
After lying on the bed for a while, she finally got up to shower. Only then did she feel a little energized.
When she went to the living room to feed her dog, she noticed something was off.
Her dog was curled up meekly on the couch, whimpering softly with a lifeless gaze. It had barely eaten any of the dog food from last night.
She first drove to his villa but was told by his household staff that he had spent the night at the office.
She drove straight to the headquarters of Kane Pharmaceutical Group. However, Leonard told her that Donovan was at another branch office this morning.
She immediately set the GPS for the branch location.
The branch office was located on the outskirts. It focused on research and development in a specific area of pharmaceuticals. It served as another R&D center outside of the headquarters, as well as a storage facility for medications.
Since the branch office had looser security than the headquarters, she reached his office easily.
The moment a few senior staff members exited, she slipped right in.
