The door of this kind of cold storage room could only be opened from the outside.
When Donovan tried to pull it open, he realized it had been locked from the outside.
He figured a staff member probably saw the door open, assumed no one was inside, and accidentally closed it. Thus, he quickly took out his phone to call for help.
Unfortunately, there was no signal in the cold storage room at all.
Upon seeing this, Giselle also checked her phone and noticed she had no signal either. She pounded on the door and shouted repeatedly. Her hands began to ache, but there was still no response from outside.
To make matters worse, this row of cold storage units had been built a decade ago, lacking the smart systems found in newer models. They had an alarm system, but it was broken.
It was already around 9:00 pm, so most of the staff members had gone home for the day. In the cold storage area, especially, nearly all the workers were long gone.
Donovan had stayed back so late because he had been in a bad mood recently and wanted to distract himself with work.
He never expected something like this to happen.
As the cold crept in, Giselle began to panic. She pounded on the locked cold storage door and shouted until her voice turned hoarse. Unfortunately, there was still no response.
"Could someone have locked us in on purpose?" she muttered while continuing to bang on the door.
However, Donovan had only casually entered for a quick check, so he only wore a shirt and a suit jacket. Giselle had it worse, as she only wore a short-sleeve top and jeans.
As time passed, the cold intensified for both of them, especially for Giselle. She collapsed in the corner, hugging her arms tightly as she shivered uncontrollably.
The more she thought about it, the more wronged and regretful she felt. If she'd just stayed outside, none of this would've happened.
Refusing to believe she could die here like this, she snapped at Donovan, "Think of something already! This is your company, so you should know it well. We can't just sit here and wait to die, right?"
As she spoke, her teeth were already chattering. The cold was closing in on her from all sides.
