Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 226

"Uncle Ethan, don't stop me," Gideon muttered in a daze, having lost all sense of rationality. "Giselle got into trouble because of me, and I have to save her. If she dies, I won't be able to live at ease for the rest of my life."

"Shut up!" Ethan looked as if someone had punched the living daylights out of him.

Grabbing Gideon by his clothes, he barked, "I saved your life and raised you! Do you think you can just prance off and do whatever you want?

"She's just a woman—what has she got to do with you? So what if she dies? As long as you don't do something stupid and stay at home, I won't stop you from marrying whatever woman you want in the future."

But his words wouldn't get through to Gideon. His mind was filled with images of Giselle under torture. He'd rather die than act like a ruthless person, pretending that none of this had ever happened.

Without a better solution, he figured the only way out was to trade himself for her.

"Uncle Ethan, I know you love me, and you're the most important person in my life," Gideon choked out. "But this time, I'm really sorry. I hope you won't stop me.

"You have your biological son and your family. Without me, you won't lose anything—"

A hard slap cut through Gideon's words.

"I'm going to beat some sense into you today!" Ethan barked. "Try taking one step out of that door, I dare you! If you're really trading yourself for her, I'll kill her myself."

Their heated exchange sent a wave of mixed emotions through Donovan. Bitterness and jealousy swelled in his chest when he saw the lengths Gideon was willing to go to save Giselle.

"Enough." Donovan stepped forward and intervened. "Gideon, her fate has nothing to do with you. You don't have to sacrifice for her."

"She's been kidnapped," Ethan said bluntly. "You're her family. You decide whether you want to save her or not."

Tony was shocked. "What are you talking about? Of course I'm going to save my daughter! Have you called the police? What's the situation now? Who kidnapped her?"

"Come meet me. The situation's complicated, and I'll explain to you in person," Ethan said before hanging up and sending Gideon's address to Tony.

Then he turned toward Donovan and said, "Listen—whether we call the police or how we handle this from here on out, all of it will be for Tony to decide. She's his daughter, after all. In a life-and-death situation like this, it's his responsibility.

"If it comes down to money, we can pay. But if it involves anything else, don't even think about it!"
