The young woman before Giselle looked so young and delicate. Her skin was pale, her body frail and thin as paper, and her face strikingly beautiful. However, her face was frozen in fear, her whole body trembling.
"Are you from Valanthea?" Giselle asked quietly, staring at the young woman as she prepared the injection.
"I am." The young woman was astounded the moment she heard her native language. Her eyes widened in surprise when she realized Giselle was also Valantian. Yet, the latter was sitting here, working for the traffickers, injecting them with whatever drug it was.
Giselle fell silent, but her movements noticeably slowed down.
When the handler who had been watching her work stepped out to use the restroom, she quietly swapped the drug for a simple glucose solution before injecting it into the young woman's vein.
Since she had been in charge of this task for several days now, Orin's men no longer hovered as closely as before. So, she could easily get away with little tricks like this.
After wrapping things up at the infirmary, Giselle returned to her dorm.
When she walked in, she noticed that the young Valantian woman who had been brought in earlier that day had also been assigned to this room.
"It's you!" Giselle greeted her.
The young woman shrank back at the sight of Giselle. Her whole body trembled uncontrollably, and she couldn't bring herself to meet Giselle's gaze. After all, she had just seen Giselle sitting in that infirmary, calmly carrying out those heinous acts.
"Easy now. I'm just like you." Giselle noticed the young woman's hesitation, so she briefly explained how she had been trafficked here.
"However, one afternoon, when we went hiking in the mountains, my boyfriend told me he had to use the restroom. Yet, even after a while, he never came back.
"I was waiting by the road when, out of nowhere, someone knocked me out. When I came to, I realized I wasn't even in the country anymore. I was tied up by a group of terrifying people.
"That's when I realized something had gone terribly wrong…" Her words dissolved into sobs, her body shaking like a leaf. "Back home, I'd heard that people who were kidnapped and brought here would be brutally killed or have their organs sold.
"I'm so scared, Giselle. Am I going to die? What did you inject me with earlier?"
Susanna was still a child at heart, a high schooler who knew nothing of the world, and she had no way of knowing what awaited her. All she had left inside was pure, unrelenting fear.
