Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 264

Right after Giselle ran into the thick of the woods, she continued to run in the direction of downhill. She had plans to hide herself in the thick of the woods and only descend the hill using the narrow paths when it was dark, so she could head toward a town not too far away to look for a car.

Even though the thick woods weren't as terrifying as the primeval forests, since they weren't as steep or as dangerous, the thickness of the woods caused visibility within them to be very low. Being entirely covered with dried leaves and branches made it difficult for one to get their bearings right.

However, her biggest worry at that moment wasn't being trapped in the mountains, but whether Orin and his men would find her.

She only wished at that moment for the woods to be as thick as they could be, since the thicker the woods, the harder it was for them to find her. Even if she had to starve to death in the mountains, it would be far better than being tortured to death by them upon being captured.

She tried her very best to get her bearings using her prior trekking experiences and managed to walk her way to a more open space. She could see the houses inhabited by others from afar, and that told her that where she was wasn't so deserted after all.

She had been walking too hurriedly forward when her foot landed on a place thickly covered with dried leaves that were slippery from the storm a few days ago, causing her to slip and roll down the slope.

Fortunately, there wasn't a cliff at the bottom of the slope. It was a small but flat surface.

When she had stopped rolling, she felt her body land on something soft and squishy, then a smell attacked her nose almost instantly that was so pungent it almost knocked her out.

She tried with great effort to sit her body up. When she raised her head and saw her surroundings, chill ran down her spine as she nearly screamed her head off.

She was greeted with a sea of young ladies' bodies—some were bare bones, some had just started to rot, and they were all stacked in various ways as they all lay in all directions. It was an extremely horrifying and disgusting sight to behold. It was like hell on earth.

Giselle was seated on a rotting corpse at that moment. She quickly scrambled her way to the side when her stomach started to churn, causing her to heave uncontrollably.

It was a communal grave for those ladies who were bought, tortured, and killed. It would also mean that Orin's men were very familiar with these woods and were often here.

As the chatting noises approached, and with the surroundings being so barren, there were no other places to hide, so she quickly scurried up a huge tree beside her.

The tree Giselle had chosen had a large canopy that was shaped like a large umbrella. It had thick leaves that grew in layers, making it the perfect spot for Giselle to hide.

All her previous bouldering experiences had helped her become very agile. As she scaled up the tree's barren trunk, she grabbed branches upon branches along the way to hoist herself up all the way. When she made it to the top of the tree, she was able to use the leaves to hide herself properly.

At that moment, she noticed that four people were making their way over to where she was, but they weren't Orin's men. They were part of the armed forces who were in a standoff with Orin the other day.

It seemed like Orin wasn't the only one wanting to capture her. These armed forces wanted a piece of her as well.
