Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 274

At that, Donovan's expression darkened instantly. He forced a dismissive reply. "People who aren't relevant don't need to know so much."

In his mind, everything that had happened to Giselle could be tracked back to Gideon. If she hadn't gotten so close to Gideon, she would never have been caught up in this nightmare.

Giselle knew exactly what he was thinking and couldn't be bothered to argue. All she wanted now was to get home, fix her phone, and let the world know she was still alive.

After another half a day of rest, she felt her body and mind had fully recovered and decided to leave the border city hospital.

Donovan had already sent someone to buy her a fresh set of clothes, a plain T-shirt and jeans, so she could walk out of the hospital dressed normally.

As she changed and moved toward the door, her gaze fell on a scrap of bloodstained fabric lying in the trash bin. She froze for a moment.

It was the piece Orin had torn from his own shirt to wrap her wound when they were fleeing through the woods. At the hospital, the doctor had cleaned and re-bandaged her injury, tossing the cloth aside without a thought.

The moment had long since passed, but the sight still pulled her back to that scene in the first place, when she'd shot him. Her heartbeat quickened for no clear reason.

But after only a few seconds, she shook it off and stepped out of the room.

Donovan's assistant had arranged transportation for their entire trip back.

"Come in. Dinner's ready." His hand settled possessively on her shoulder as he guided her toward the living room without asking.

From the start of her escape yesterday to now, nearly two full days had passed. She hadn't had a real meal in all that time, just a quick bite at the hospital. Hunger gnawed at her now.

So she followed him inside and headed straight for the dining room. The housekeeper had laid out a lavish spread, every dish one of her favorites.

Since her abduction months ago and the time spent in captivity abroad, she hadn't enjoyed a proper meal. Seeing the feast before her, she didn't bother with courtesy. She sat down and began eating heartily.
