Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 316

When Donovan asked Giselle to stay, she hesitated for a few seconds before replying, "Fine. Since you technically saved my life, I'll stick around a little longer, but don't expect me to take care of you. I've never taken care of anyone in my life."

"I don't need you to," he said, breathing deeply as his expression finally relaxed. "I just want you here."

Giselle decided against saying anything harsh. For now, she would agree to stay in the ward.

With two professional caregivers attending to him and a team of doctors and nurses watching over him, there really wasn't anything she needed to do.

But that also meant she was stuck in the room with Donovan. She was unwilling to open up, unable to provoke or upset him, and was too restless to just sit idle.

Finding the situation awkward, Giselle sank onto a nearby bed meant for family members. She propped herself up against the headboard and pulled out her phone to play games.

Soon she was lost in the fight on the screen. She completely forgot that she was in a hospital and that a seriously injured man lay right beside her.

Faced with her seemingly heartless demeanor, Donovan wasn't offended. Instead, he turned onto his side and quietly admired her face.

A soft, fond glow warmed his eyes, and his spirits lifted considerably. To him, Giselle looked exactly as she had when they first met.

For a fleeting moment, he felt as if they had been transported back to the past.

It was the same heartless demeanor Donovan had always despised. But in this very moment, seeing that same expression felt precious.

As long as she stayed by his side, he was content, even if she did and said nothing. Even if the accident had been because of her, he considered it a gift.

After finishing a round, Giselle happened to glance over and caught Donovan's gaze riveted on her. Muttering to herself that he was crazy, she deliberately turned her back to him and kept gaming.

A few minutes later, the caregiver wheeled in his lunch.

Since Donovan was still in recovery, his meals were mostly soupy and nutrient-rich dishes. They were carefully prepared by the family chef under the doctor's instructions.

Seeing how much food there was, Giselle figured he wouldn't be able to finish it anyway. Without asking, she grabbed a spoon, scooped up some chicken soup and took a sip.

"Ms. Holt! What are you doing? This is for Mr. Kane! How can you start eating it yourself?"

The caregiver, Lily Brown, rushed over to stop her and gave her a disapproving glare.

Giselle had, after all, lounged around all morning doing nothing but playing games. She acted as if she were the one convalescing—a fact that had not gone unnoticed by the medical staff, who were less than pleased.
