At last, there were trustworthy people around. Noticing that the staff member on duty was a woman, she promptly explained the situation and borrowed her phone to call her best friend, Vivienne Lockwood.
Vivienne had been in Singario caring for her ill mother for the past few months and had only recently come back to the country. They hadn’t even had the chance to plan a meal together before this incident happened.
Within an hour, Vivienne arrived at the gas station.
“You…” Vivienne had only heard over the phone that she had driven into a river and didn’t know why. Seeing her friend looking like a soaked rat, she felt a mix of concern and amusement.
“Don’t say anything. Just get in the car.” Giselle, feeling disoriented and like a zombie, opened the passenger door of Vivienne’s car and got in.
In the secure and cozy space of the car, she finally felt like she had returned to reality. Unable to resist, she grabbed the half–empty bottle of mineral water next to Vivienne and took a big gulp.
Vivienne swiftly started the car before reversing onto the road.
She said playfully as she drove, “You’re the one who usually races cars, yet you ended up driving into a lake. Aren’t you embarrassed? I’ve always told you not to show off.
“Showing off leads to trouble! Every time I’m in your speeding car, I feel like my heart’s going to leap out. Well, it looks like you finally got your ‘feet wet‘ from tempting fate too often by the river!”
As for Giselle’s car ending up in the river, Vivienne wasn’t too concerned, knowing Giselle’s strong swimming abilities. It wasn’t a surprise that she had survived. However, Giselle stared blankly ahead through the car window, unable to shake off the terror of the night’s events.
“This time, I was pushed into the river. It was an attempted murder,”
“What?” Vivienne exclaimed in shock. “What happened? Who did murmured, still in a daze.
“The Holts, Renee,”
“Oh my goodness!” Vivienne gasped, slowing the car in disbelief. “That woma bond? No matter how much she despises you, she shouldn’t try to kill you!”

In a hushed tone, Giselle revealed, “I have a feeling that the mysterious car accident that connected to her.”

In the days that followed, Giselle stayed at Vivienne’s house instead of going back to her own.
The following morning, Vivienne followed her instructions and reported her as missing. At the same time, the police received a call from the zoo director, who mentioned he had scheduled a meeting with Giselle that evening, but she didn’t appear and was unreachable.
The police promptly initiated an investigation. By the third day, they located the spot where her car had plunged into the river and arranged for experts to retrieve the vehicle.
After discovering her identification documents inside the car, the police reached out to the Holt family to identity the body at the scene. Meanwhile, Vivienne arrived there, where she cried uncontrollably and took photographis
Even though Giselle’s body wasn’t discovered in the car and the window was shattered, the lake was incredibly deep, over 30 feet at its deepest point and nestled in the mountains—not to mention that it was night when the accident had happened. Under normal circumstances, Giselle would have drowned and sunk to the lake’s bottom, effectively disappearing from the world forever.
News of her demise in the car accident quickly circulated among their acquaintances.
On the morning of the fourth day, Giselle was sound asleep in the guest room at Vivienne’s house when a Whatsapp video call startled her awake. Vivienne had bought her a new phone, which didn’t have a SIM card yet but was connected to the home Wi–Fi for occasional WhatsApp use.
With sleepy eyes, she picked up the phone and saw that the call was from Donovan.
