"After we broke up, two months later, I realized I was pregnant. I remembered the last time we were together, I had secretly punctured the condom. I thought for sure the child was yours. So, I decided to take the gamble. I carried the baby to term abroad and gave birth after ten months."
Cecilia's voice trembled. "But when I looked at the child, I wasn't certain anymore. Because after we split, I was in so much pain I couldn't move on. I gave in to Caius—he had been chasing me for a long time. I only did it to numb the pain. We used protection, but somehow I still ended up pregnant."
Her eyes filled with tears. "So the child is actually Caius. But I never told him the truth. And I never stayed with him. I couldn't let go of you. All I've ever wanted was to be with you, so I resorted to something shameful and desperate."
Gideon didn't erupt in fury at the confession. Strangely, what washed over him was relief. It was as if a crushing weight he had carried for years had suddenly slid from his shoulders.
But then another thought hit him, and his expression darkened. "Donovan came to see you back then, didn't he?"
"Yes." Cecilia no longer tried to hide it. "He did. I don't even know how he learned about us."
Gideon clenched his jaw, his voice low and sharp. "So, he already knew the child wasn't mine?"
Cecilia hesitated, faltering for several seconds before she finally nodded. "Yes. When he came to me, I told him the baby wasn't yours, that I might lose you. And then he—"
"Finish it!" Gideon barked.
