"Are you hurt anywhere else?" Donovan asked, still anxious after hearing about the fire and stampede. He couldn't shake the worry that Giselle might be seriously injured. "Let's have a full medical examination, including your brain and respiratory system, to be safe."
"There's no need," Giselle said firmly. "I know my own condition. It's just some scrapes. I kept my mouth and nose covered, and I haven't had a single episode."
She immediately added, "We should check on Dorothea, though. She's in worse shape. She's older, and with the injuries to her muscles and bones, she'll probably need to stay in the hospital for a while."
The two of them hurried to Dorothea's temporary hospital room.
X-rays confirmed that Dorothea's condition was serious. Not only was one of her legs broken, but she also had a concussion and multiple scrapes all over her body. Fortunately, none of her internal organs were injured.
"I told you not to buy those tickets," Ethan scolded Grace sharply. "Look at where you brought Mom today. That theater's decades old, and it had a fire incident a few years ago! It's her birthday—just look at the mess this has caused!"
"How is that my fault? In this family, who besides me even remembers Dorothea's hobbies? I just wanted to celebrate her birthday. Who could have expected something like this? I was terrified myself, and all you do is criticize!" Grace snapped.
"Alright, enough," Dorothea said coldly. "I didn't die, so don't make it worse than it is. If anyone's to blame, it's me. I'm old and useless and almost got Giselle hurt too."
