Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 629

"Don't worry, you don't owe me anything." Gideon drew in a deep breath and looked away. "When I decided to let Donovan come to you, I already let go of a lot. Because of me, you've faced disaster after disaster. I owe you too much. Now, my only wish is to see you healthy and happy. No matter who gives you that happiness, I can accept it."

"Thank you," Giselle said.

Beyond those two words, nothing else seemed appropriate to say to him.

"Alright, I'll be going. Remember to take your medicine."

"Okay."

Giselle saw him to the door of the clinic and exchanged a few parting words.

Gideon's heart ached with reluctance. He wanted to stay a few more minutes, to say a few more words to her, but in the end, he only gave her a long, deep look before turning and getting into his car.

Once the car started, he drove slowly along the far lane. As he cruised with one hand on the wheel and his back leaning against the seat, a sharp, bittersweet ache filled his chest at the thought of Giselle's face.

He knew better than anyone that he had never truly had her, not for a single moment. Yet in his heart, he felt he had lost her thousands, even millions of times.

It was time to put an end to it, to release it, to finally make his peace with it. Today would be the last time.

He held the steering wheel with a weary grip, warning himself again and again in his mind, yet his eyes burned with an ache he couldn't suppress.
